  • Used my GPS and got lost. Must have entered wrong. Stopped at the Teepee Curios and the gave us directions. Once we found it it was a great photo opportunity. Loved it.  more »
  • A must-do photo op. How else will you prove you've been on Route 66? It sits right by the side of the road in front of the Convention Center.  more »
  • A nice stop at Tucumcari, gives a good photo opprtunity. Located at front of convention center and near Route 66 museum (located at convention center).  more »

  • Route 66 sculpture sculpture is just outside the Tucumcari Convention Center. It is located at the exit of the city to the 1500 W Route 66 Blvd. It's a brilliant chrome sculpture which makes a tribute to the chrome of the cars of the 1950s and the mother road is Route 66. It's the artist Tom Coffin, who was chosen by the commission of Tucumcari: the New Mexico Highway Dept and the Arts Commission of the New Mexico to create this sculpture. It is set on a sloping base that looks a bit like a Tex-Mex temple made of tires, sandstone, two-way contours of the road. Dedicated in 1997, the base is topped with a chrome, a Cadillac fin, three rear lights, and a pair of tubular type Hippie Font sixes. The entire sculpture is headed west.
