  • A monument to the glory days of Route 66 located in front of the Tucumcari Convention Center. Sad that people just drive down I-40 and miss all the great little cities and towns along the way.  more »
  • Do you ride Tucumcari from West to get to the merger of route 66 with the W Tucumcari Blvd this monument on the left. Before you know it you drive there over. The monument is a tribute to route 66 not so special and worth no more than a brief stop.

  • Route 66 runs right through Tucumcari with the quaint little motels still in operation. I was impressed with their dedication to the Route 66 theme, especially this monument. It is free to look so sto...  more »

  • Route 66 sculpture sculpture is just outside the Tucumcari Convention Center. It is located at the exit of the city to the 1500 W Route 66 Blvd. It's a brilliant chrome sculpture which makes a tribute to the chrome of the cars of the 1950s and the mother road is Route 66. It's the artist Tom Coffin, who was chosen by the commission of Tucumcari: the New Mexico Highway Dept and the Arts Commission of the New Mexico to create this sculpture. It is set on a sloping base that looks a bit like a Tex-Mex temple made of tires, sandstone, two-way contours of the road. Dedicated in 1997, the base is topped with a chrome, a Cadillac fin, three rear lights, and a pair of tubular type Hippie Font sixes. The entire sculpture is headed west.
