Part of the extensive Coronado National Forest, Madera Canyon features outdoor facilities, trails, and an array of migratory bird species. Visit the area, nestled in a mountainous region of the state, and marvel at its wide variety of plant life, which ranges from high-elevation forests to more desert-like stretches. Wander its network of hiking trails to explore these different climactic zones, and keep your eyes peeled for some of the more than 200 species of birds that call the area home, including flycatchers, trogons, warblers, and more.   • Madera Canyon is a beautiful area that used to serve as a summer haven for Tucsonans. Most of the cabins are gone but it is also the trailhead for a great hike to Mt. Wrightson. Only for those in good...  more »
  • We enjoyed the fact that there weren't many hikers in this area. Some of the trails were not as clearly marked as some places, but we managed. There aren't any restrooms until you drive all the way to...  more »
