Part of the extensive Coronado National Forest, Madera Canyon features outdoor facilities, trails, and an array of migratory bird species. Visit the area, nestled in a mountainous region of the state, and marvel at its wide variety of plant life, which ranges from high-elevation forests to more desert-like stretches. Wander its network of hiking trails to explore these different climactic zones, and keep your eyes peeled for some of the more than 200 species of birds that call the area home, including flycatchers, trogons, warblers, and more. Swing by the visitor center for a map of the canyon and then park in one of the several designated areas that line the road throughout the park.
