  • This 1947 memorial to those lost at sea offers a comfortable place to sit and view the ocean in a variety of moods. The sloping sidewalk is closed and in need of repair (Oct 2016) but the stairs are o...  read more »
  • Beautiful lighthouse and photos of the sea! Great views from the top. For the fit there are stairs that lead down to the beach.
  • When I first read the monument I was not sure what it was saying. The I realized that it was not just for sailors that have been lost and sea but also those that were buried at sea after their death. ...  read more »
  • Love seeing the replica. The real one which is on the rock is beautiful to see. Ive seen it from the top of the rock, from ocean view and up close and personal when it opens for Fish fest (usually held on fathers day).
  • Nice view. We took the Trinidad trail as well, which is a small hike that goes over the hills. Excellent breathtaking view.
  • 7/12/13 I love memorials. I enjoy stopping for moments of silence to think about the lives of others that have been lost. The Soldier's Memorial of Pleasant Hill honors WWI veterans. Walnut Creek has Veteran's Memorial Plaza. And Lafayette has a hill of crosses honoring men and women killed in Iraq. This Lighthouse Memorial in Trinidad celebrates the lives of those lost at sea. The memorial sits atop a hillside overlooking a great span of the beautiful Northern CA coast and ocean. There is a bench and a small area to walk around. Lots of beautiful flowers were in bloom but it was hard to take our eyes off the view! A list of names on the wall includes the people lost at sea both recently and many, many years ago. I read over the names and thought about the people; wondering about the moments before they went missing. Was it a giant storm rocking their boats until they capsized? Or an accidentally falling overboard and vanishing. Or maybe someone swimming away in hopes of being "lost", like Julia Roberts in Sleeping With The Enemy (though, she was eventually found). Great movie. Great memorial.
