  • In the fall, the drive there is beautiful. Not a lot of traffic. Once you get there you have ample parking, a nice beach and friendly attendants in the lighthouse. Well worth the free admission. $4 if...  read more »
  • "Grand Traverse" translates loosely from French as "big journey". The lighthouse is a relic of when Old Mission was a way station for boats traveling and trading along the Great Lakes. It is scenic an...  read more »
  • With the water level higher in Lake Michigan this year, the beach area by the Old Mission Lighthouse is much better than previous years. Very clean and well maintained park like setting. It is a great...  read more »
  • The picturesque Mission Point Lighthouse was built in 1870 to warn ships away from the dangerous shoals extending into Grand Traverse Bay at the tip of the Old Mission Peninsula, I think the drive up the Peninsula was more interesting that the Lighthouse itself, quaint towns and eateries dotted the route up. “Were I a Roman Catholic, perhaps I should on this occasion vow to build a chapel to some saint, but as I am not, if I were to vow at all, it should be to build a light-house." Ben Franklin
  • When we pulled in the parking lot it was crowded, but once we walked around it didn't feel crowded at all. There are several things to see and do: The historic log cabin house, The Light house and gift shop, and wow the views of where the West Arm and East Arm of Grand Traverse Bay meet are spectacular.
  • Fun spot! Going up in the lighthouse is a bit pricey, but it's fun to do once. It's a gorgeous place. Stop at the Old Mission General Store while you're out there and get a cream cheese-filled pretzel!
  • It was a nice, cool, enjoyable place to visit. My family had fun going through the lighthouse, playing on the beach, & eating some nearby fresh fruit.
  • The Old Mission Peninsula bicycle ride is rated one of the best cycling routes in all of Michigan. I rode it for the first time and have to agree, it's the best ride I've done in the state.
