River Rat Tubing, Townsend

4.3
River Rat Tubing offers river-tubing fun for the whole family. You can take it easy or go a little faster with two sections of the Little River available for tubing. The upper section, the adventure float, offers a scenic trip along tree-lined banks that features rapids and swimming holes. The lower section serves as a family area with a rope swing, small area of more gentle rapids, and a rock jump. Bring your swimsuit and water shoes. Tubes with covered bottoms are available for very small children; you can also rent a tether to attach your child's tube to yours. Tubing is probably not something we would normally do. However, we decided to do it on the day of the solar eclipse so that we would have a good space to watch the eclipse. The tubing experience is we...  more »

We stayed at the Townsend KOA campgrounds in part because we wanted to do the tubing the KOA advertises. Being the cautious mom I am, I called and asked who the tubing company was so I could check the...  more »

Spent the day on the river. There were warnings of low water but we had no problems. Had fun swimming & relaxing. Staff was very friendly. Great with the 5 kids we had with us.  more »

This is the first time I have taken my kids (ages 10, 8 and 6) tubing and it was a BLAST! The river is perfect for the kids, and the shuttle back to the beginning is awesome. Took us about an hour and a half to go down, so we went twice. Just watch out for the old man at the end near the bus pickup. He made a homemade water Cannon in his yard and sprays tubers as they go by 🤔

We continue to return here year after year. Excellent people always working at both locations. Tubes are great quality with no issues out of them ever. They also offer a season pass that's a hard deal to pass up on!

Though I have been tubing the river since about 1980, this was my first time with a company, and the first time ever for my wife and 3 girls (11-19 y.o.). The staff was great, went out of their way to make sure everything was as we wanted it, and every single one was very pleasant. I was actually planning on going with the company that cost less, but when I talked to the gal at the upper office (you can do the upper river for rapids, or the lower for a slower, more family oriented trip), she invited me to go check out her tubes versus the competitors, and to ask if we could raft all day with them for one price, and have our choice of two different runs. Since the Rat has been around since '95, I didn't need to go next door. I did check out the rafts that people using other outfitters used, and several people were in half inflated tubes that kept getting stuck. Oh, and my family will insist on doing this every time we go to the Smokies from now on, which could be hard, as we go in all four seasons (Ohio tourist season, Illinois tourist season, West Virginia season and that stinking of reddish colored tourist season!).

Very nice tubing experience. I had to knock it down a star, because (1) they don't offer a military discount, but if we had paid online then they would have discounted $2 each person; and (2) they couldn't find the waivers we all submitted online, so we had to do them again in person. It seemed the staff in the office weren't trained well enough on the booking procedure. Otherwise, it was fun tubing down the river, and the fact that one can go down the river all day long does make it very enjoyable.

We had a blast on our first white water rafting trip! Savannah was a great guide & very knowledgeable. We will definitely be back to do it again. Great first time experience! 😁
