Tombstone Courthouse State Historic Park, Tombstone

(4.4/5 based on 700+ reviews on the web)
Visit Tombstone Courthouse State Historic Park for a glimpse into the history of the Old West in this historic silver mining town. The two-story brick structure that looks like a Roman cross was once Cochise County's jail, and included courtrooms and offices for the sheriff, treasurer, and board of supervisors. Built in 1882, it now houses exhibits that describe life for the miners, cattlemen, and pioneers who built Tombstone. Exhibits include a tax license for the operation of a brothel, a replica of the original gallows that stood in the courthouse courtyard, and many examples of firearms owned and used by the pioneers during the mining boom. The site offers numerous shaded picnic areas. Make Tombstone Courthouse State Historic Park a centerpiece of your Tombstone vacation itinerary, and find what else is worth visiting using our Tombstone holiday planner.

  • We expected Tombstone to be kind of hokey and touristy, but we did not expect to have such a good time! The whole town is involved in providing entertainment and historical information about the Wild ...  more »
  • Lots of interesting information. One item I got a kick out of was that one of the cattle barons got his start by herding turkeys to the gold miners in Nevada.  more »
  • The court house is well preserved and is an important part of Tomstone today. It contains quite a lot of memorabilia and there are a lot of original fittings. A fee is payable for entry.  more »

  • This town is such a throwback to the history of the west. Very educational and fun. Plan to visit all the historical buildings and enjoy shopping too. Have fun with the shootout! Don't forget to check out Boot Hill. Admission is just a donation to help pay for upkeep.
  • Interesting museum in a very old courthouse in a very interesting, borderline ghost town... it's a must-stop if you visit Tombstone.
  • Impressive display of History. Place its interesting and brings you back to past time, great adventure and experience for American Arizona History!
  • They have a gallows! That's where they hung prisoners sentenced to death in the wild west. Check out the courthouse and see the history in person.
  • Very cool museum you will see a lot of neat stuff its for sure worth the money.
