Tombstone Courthouse State Historic Park, Tombstone

4.4
Visit Tombstone Courthouse State Historic Park for a glimpse into the history of the Old West in this historic silver mining town. The two-story brick structure that looks like a Roman cross was once Cochise County's jail, and included courtrooms and offices for the sheriff, treasurer, and board of supervisors. Built in 1882, it now houses exhibits that describe life for the miners, cattlemen, and pioneers who built Tombstone. Exhibits include a tax license for the operation of a brothel, a replica of the original gallows that stood in the courthouse courtyard, and many examples of firearms owned and used by the pioneers during the mining boom. The site offers numerous shaded picnic areas. • Historically preserved and a must when visiting Tombstone. This Victorian architecture built in 1882, is also the site of hangings of criminals in the wild, wild West. Original document vaults are in display. There is a charming gift shop. The docents are extremely knowledgeable and are eager to respond to questions.
  • Very interesting and well kept museum. Lots of history and lots to see and even the gallows. Though rebuilt still very cool for the kids to see how the end was met back then. There is a room you can ring some old bells too. Worth a visit every time I am in Tombstone. Relaxed atmosphere and friendly employees.
  • Personally, I liked going to the courthouse more than going to the O.K. Corral. If you have kids, they might find this place a bit boring. But if you are a history buff, this place is well preserved, a gold mind of information and worth the entry fee.
  • Worth spending the money to learn more about Tombstone. It was the only non-hokey part of this town aside from the brewery. Lots of historical aritfacts and interesting information in regards to the OK Corral fight.
  • Beautiful building, lots of history inside. It has the most historically accurate description of the events that happened at the ok corral. It is a small place, but it does have some interesting displays. Is worth visiting to support our national parks.
