  • I've gone to Oak Openings my whole life. It's one of the most peaceful places I know. The areas vary so much. Good well marked hiking trails of varied lengths. Now my Grandsons are going.
  • This is one of the nicest parks in the area, especially for cyclist. Lots of miles of trail, with beautiful scenery and water. Its a drive for us, but well worth it.
  • This truly is a great park. Many trails and beautiful scenery. I especially loved the sand dunes. While the bathrooms weren't particularly clean, everything else was awesome. I'd recommend spending a ...  more »

  • Most of this park was the normal kind of place to walk through, pretty but something you find fairly often. But there is a patch of trees that are absolutely stunning--tall, picturesque, and able to be walked through with ease because of minimal ground covering. We also ran into someone from Australia looking just for this spot, so it seems to really be something people from around the world are checking out. This section makes a good park a great one! Oh, I'm generally just a hiker, but there are also horse & bike trails. I haven't used them so I can't say how good they are, but they appeared to be top notch.
  • Big, beautiful park. Many trails and playgrounds. Has a nice pond you can fish in or cookout by. The rental facilities here are really nice and pretty cheap. This park is a little hard to get to, but is never crowded.
  • This was a nice little surprise while driving around the area. I love when a metro park feels like you are in the middle of nowhere even when a major city is nearby. I would definitely hike here again!
  • Dunes, prairies, and trails for days. A great place for an outing with the family. Their birdwatching building attracts the loveliest birds around. Come here with mosquito spray if it's warm.
  • My favorite park in the area. More of a like a "region" than a park. Great place to get away for a few hours or even longer! Far enough away from the city to be refreshing but close enough for convenience. Great trails and even roads to drive through. If I could, i would live there.
