Capitol Reef National Park

National Parks · Hiking Trails · Historic Sites
Capitol Reef National Park takes its name from a particularly rugged and scenic section of the Waterpocket Fold, a geologic "wrinkle" stretching for 160 km (100 mi) along a dry plateau surrounded by white Navajo sandstone cliffs and domes, and red canyons, buttes, and rock bridges. A scenic drive through the park offers the most efficient way to drink in the views, while hiking, biking, horseback riding, rock climbing, and fishing provide other options for exploring the park's terrain at a slower pace. A day is all that's needed for a satisfying visit, but spending the night gives you a good look at countless bright stars in the clear night sky of the south-central Utah desert. Customize your holiday with our United States day trip planning app to create an adventure that suits you.

Where to stay in Capitol Reef National Park

Capitol Reef National Park does not offer lodging beyond its campground, so many visitors opt to stay in the town of Torrey just to the west along Route 24. Economy motels, some of which are part of national chains and others of which are locally owned, dominate the list of options, but a few inns and bed and breakfasts are available too. Torrey has a couple of dining establishments, adding to the convenience of staying here. You'll also find a few motels between the town and the park entrance.
