  • It is very open and quiet here. This is a very calming and peaceful place. I took my kayak out with my small children while my husband went fishing. We all had a great time here.
  • One of the most beautiful places l have ever been to. Amazing views of the mountains and lake. I would love to go there again soon.
  • Roan Mountain, Watauga Lake and Elizabethton are among my favorite places in the Cherokee National Forest. Roan Mountain has a natural rhododendron garden that is spectacular during the June blooming season. Roan Mountain State Park has tent sites up to cabins. Panther Creek State Park is one of the more developed of the Tennessee State Parks and includes a gift shop, pavilions, RV dump station, warm bathhouses, laundromat etc. Hiking in this portion of the Cherokee National Forest includes the Appalachian Trail and the nearby Sycamore Shoals and Panther Creek State Parks and Carter Mansion are worth visiting. There is fishing, canoeing, camping, history, museums and lots of activities in this area of the Cherokee National Forest.
  • Beautiful views of the mountains. Love bald river falls and buck all. Both have easy access.
  • Some of my favorite areas are in Cherokee forest. Spanning almost all of the mountains outside of the Smokies it offers some true gems for those willing to step off the beaten path... Literally
