In addition to hosting exotic animals from around the world, Tampa's Lowry Park Zoo claims to display more species native to Florida than anywhere else. The zoo features multiple themed sections, including Asia, Africa, and Australia. You can learn about endangered species, and explore more than 23 hectares (56 acres) of exhibits. Don't miss the on-site hospital (the only example of its kind) dedicated to helping and rehabilitating injured Florida manatees. Check before you visit for special events and chances to interact directly with animals. The zoo was beautiful, you can walk through some of the exhibits and be inside the cage with the animals, which was cool... We weren't aware that there was a splash pad inside, but it was a huge blast... read more »
Lots of animals to see. Water park and dedicated play area for kids. Rides are included with admission. Parking is free. Fun events for the holidays!
Polite and helpful staff. Well laid out and shaded walking paths. Avoid hot afternoon visits as most animals then in shaded enclosures. Less eating choices. The Sahara safari ride was a bit disappoint... read more »
Wait... Some people need to learn to read because there are one too many reviews for the actual Tampa, FL Zoo on here. However.. The OLD zoo is cool. Abandoned. Empty. Mildly eerie.I think it's better than a regular zoo sometimes. Not crowded. Free.Plus there are plenty of places to picnic. The carousel is nearby. And of course lots of trails to get lost on.Definitely worth a visit.

Lowry Park is a nice zoo. Trying to figure out why there are at least two reviews for the OLD zoo at Griffith Park which is in Los Angeles for crying out loud. The LA Zoo is a nice zoo, and the old LA Zoo is spooky and interesting, but have nothing to do with Lowry Park. These reviews are for the Lowry Park Zoo In Tampa. Duh! Please rate the LA Zoo old or new on their web site.
I have always gone 2 this zoo when i was younger and i took now 19 and 21yr old boys here when they were younger and now im taking my 2yr old daughter who loves animals and playing in the play area.she especially loved the rides ....yall keep up the great work yall r doing and I will continue coming back
Went to see "Romeo and Juliet" as part of Independent Shakespeare Co. FL summer Shakespeare series. The shows are FREE, parking is FREE, the fabulous FL . ambiance and vibes are FREE. Definitely recommend coming down here during the summers to check out these free shows. The Old Zoo itself is pretty cool, with all the original cages in tact with added graffiti. Plenty of photo shoot opportunities and lots of hiking trails. Awesome FL . views if you plan to hike up to the top of the Old Zoo. Take some time to explore and "run wild" loll.
Not only is this a great zoo with plenty of attractions and animals for young children, the staff have gone above and beyond for my family. My mom took my 3 children and my special needs sister to the zoo. My sister had an accident and had on wet, and dirty pants since my mom couldn't get them all the way cleaned up. The employees saw this and they brought my sister a new pair of pants just like the employees wear and then took my kids to go feed the manta rays while my mom helped her clean up in the bathroom. It's hard having children and special needs family members at large places like a zoo, but when the staff recognizes the need and steps in to support the family it makes us members of Lowry Park Zoo for life!
