  • Liked it enough to get a yearly pass for my kids. Prices are not unreasonable and I have been able to bring water bottles in the past. They also have water fountains occasionally placed throughout. My daughters LOVED the kids play area; they have done renovations in the kids area since the last time I had been before getting my passes. The only thing that concerns me is the proximity of the petting zoo to the play area to the restaurant. Some animals do seem to be missing from certain exhibits quite often; however, being as that there is such a variety of animals to see, it has never been a problem (though you can get a little bummed out when it is one of the "cool" animals missing.) Overall, I would recommend this place. It's a great place to take your kids. Update, it's become over populated and parking is horrible. Bought a pass and almost a year has passed now. I've gone 3 times and have not made it into the park because there was people everywhere and no where to park. A waste of time and money.
  • I've been a few times in the past few years and haven't seen any of the animals in poor condition. They did used to have camel rides which looked bad but I don't think they do that anymore. They rescue manatees and the indoor viewing tank is lovely. Some of the reptiles are in tanks that are a little too small. The petting zoo is great, there is an area for the goats to go when they have had enough. There was (in 2016) a HUGE rescue pig that was 13 or 14. The lady supervising the area saw us talking to him and called him over so we could pet him. The ray touch tank is well supervised and large enough for them to swim away whn annoyed. The attendant enthusiastically told us all of their names, species and all about one ray who was pregnant. The only real issue was the restaurant food. There's not a lot of variety, for starters. The staff is polite and helpful, but I'm pretty sure I got food poisoning from the tacos. My sister ordered chicken strips and none of us could tell if it was chicken or fish.
  • I've been to around fifteen zoos all over the country (plus one in Toronto), and this is my least favorite of all of them. I'm not sure if all Florida zoos are overpriced and underwhelming, but this place fits that description pretty well. For the high cost it is a fairly small zoo, and I'd say it's a better deal to purchase a family membership as a local of the Tampa Bay Area. Membership grants you access to special events, and preferred parking, and the come back all year tickets do not, and also have some dates blocked out. Check out both before picking one or the other, because the memberships aren't that much more. It is $30.95 for an adult and $22.95 for kids 3-11. For two dollars more per ticket you can come back for the rest of the year. Those prices make this the most expensive zoo I've been to apart from the San Diego Zoo, however, San Diego's zoo is the size of a small town. The free zoos I've gone to were are more enjoyable and had nicer layouts (Madison, Chicago, St. Louis, etc.) Nothing in particular stands out here, and although I keep going here once a year hoping to have a great zoo day, I always leave feeling slightly disappointed, and wishing there were a better local zoo to take my daughter to. For the high price this place should be amazing. It simply isn't. It also bothers me that the high entrance fee successfully prevents most lower income families from being able to come here with their children. That's a damned shame, in my opinion. Every kid deserves regular trips to the zoo, and one lousy free day a year isn't cutting it, in my opinion.
  • Excellent place to visit for 3 years above kids! My daughter enjoyed kids rides, live dinosaurs, animals in zoo and a little one's roller coaster!! Nice attendants, they speak softly and double the ride if requested! Cool surroundings. Live dinosaurs are cool. Everything is enjoyable and kids will come out with HUGE smile so will parents!! 36" height is mandatory for kid to sit in rides!!
  • Having lived in Tampa for a number of years I was excited to go here and finally made it while I had friends visiting from out of town. It also involved going on a week day so it wasn't too busy. For a group of 7 (5 adults and 2 children) it seemed a little on the expensive side but we were all eager to visit so we paid. In all honesty it was a sore disappointment. A couple of the exhibits were okay - the manatees and aquarium - but many were poor or terrible. The giraffes, elephants and zebras just looked pitiful. Not much space or shade and nothing within the enclosures to keep them occupied. The zoo seemed somewhat run down and a number of attractions were closed or being worked on. Staff were not friendly and seemed as unhappy as the animals. All in all I wouldn't return and left feeling sad for the animals.
