Sunshine Skyway Bridge, Tampa

4.6
#2 of 116 in Things to do in Tampa
Sunshine Skyway Bridge, considered the "flag bridge" of Florida, stretches across Tampa Bay and features a cable-stayed main span. The original bridge was built in 1954, but construction on the current bridge began in 1982 and it was re-opened in 1987. Many visitors love crossing the bridge to take in views over the water. You must pay a small toll, but it's worth it to snap a few photos from this spot. You can stop at a nearby park on the St. Petersburg side of the bridge to rest, swim, or have a picnic. • Not much to say about it, it's a bridge. I would say it's worth crossing if you have the chance. It's an emblematic landscape and seeing it by your own eyes is cool. You'll not get any good picture unless you stop at a rest are before the bridge entrance.
  • Linda S. Give that woman a raise!!! I've been crossing this bridge 3-4 times a week, for almost 6 years. She was the friendliest person I've ever come into contact with! Was having a HORRIBLE day/night...She just turned my frown upside down, simply by her wonderful attitude. Made me forget whatever it was that I was so angry about!😁 Thanks Linda!
  • Breath Taking view on sunrise from the bridge and pier. It's one of those places where you go to decompress and relax. In my opinion this is one of those Florida bridges that you need drive to. Alongside it has two fishing piers, each from oposite side from the bridge. Both piers are like 1.5 miles in and you can drive your 🚗 all the way in!
  • My absolute favorite bridge. The views of Fort Desoto and Saint Pete Side are amazing! ♡
  • It's a nice bridge and the rest areas are nice but be careful going anywhere near the entrances if you are not intending to use it! There is absolutely nowhere to turn around at least a mile approaching it from either direction. I made a wrong turn, desperately tried to find a place to turn around and just asked the toll lady if I could turn around. She said sure you can turn around at a rest stop but they still have to charge me. So you can design a big fancy bridge but you can't make a simple way to just turn around? Probably gonna just stay away from this from now on.
