Sunshine Skyway Bridge, Tampa

4.6
#2 of 180 in Things to do in Tampa
Sunshine Skyway Bridge, considered the "flag bridge" of Florida, stretches across Tampa Bay and features a cable-stayed main span. The original bridge was built in 1954, but construction on the current bridge began in 1982 and it was re-opened in 1987. Many visitors love crossing the bridge to take in views over the water. You must pay a small toll, but it's worth it to snap a few photos from this spot. You can stop at a nearby park on the St. Petersburg side of the bridge to rest, swim, or have a picnic. • This bridge connects the Pinellas Peninsula to Manatee County. The toll is only $1.25 each way. You can pay with cash if you don't have a pass. The tollbooth workers are friendly.  more »

  • Very long bridge, love that you can drive on parts of the old bridge. If you want to drive in the old bridge to fish or take pictures make sure you have a few dollars in your car. It’s super cheap but you pay by the hour so if you plan on staying until sunset just set aside some cash because they don’t take cards. To get to the old bridge just take either rest area exit to get there. One is on the south side and the other the north
  • So beautiful!! Amazing views from the top. We pulled over and took son picks of the bridge in the background.
  • It is a great ride over the bridge not if you're driving only the passages get to see the great views love to go over it over and over
  • Amazing piece of engineering. At the top you are about 200' above sea level with commanding views of Tampa Bay and out into the Gulf of Mexico. Can often see container ships, sailboats, and fishing vessels of all sorts. Good views of the St. Pete & Tampa skylines, Ft. DeSoto Park, Anna Maria Island and Egmont Key.
  • Not much to say about it, it's a bridge. I would say it's worth crossing if you have the chance. It's an emblematic landscape and seeing it by your own eyes is cool. You'll not get any good picture unless you stop at a rest are before the bridge entrance.
