  • I think that The Thistle is one of the premier golf courses on the Grand Strand. I live here and I've played at least 50 of the area's 90 + courses, so I have something to compare this course to. The ...  more »

  • The good, the course is awesome and the greens were fantastic. The bad, some of the rangers at this course are the worst I have encountered in 30 years of playing golf. We had a group of five, played a threesome and a twosome. We were taking our time so we wouldn't constantly be pushing the foursome in front of us and took about 5 minutes extra at the turn because we had been waiting every shot on the front side and no one was close to keeping up with us behind our group. The ranger came by on hole 11 and told us we were half a hole behind. We explained no one was waiting on us and we were trying to be polite and not push the group in front since we had two small groups. He told us to pick up and catch them or speed up. We caught them on the next hole and then waited 5 minutes a shot for the rest of the round, having to play games on the tee boxes to keep from falling asleep. No group behind us caught up. We played the round in 3 hours 50 minutes, even waiting every shot. No reason for the rangers to be jerks when everyone there is on vacation. Totally ruined the round. Additionally, there credit card machine went down and they made one of our guys leave his credit card for the round so he could buy balls. Plenty of other courses in the area if you are looking for Southern hospitality, these guys brought their attitude down with them when they moved.
  • We kept reading reviews and hearing how prestine The Thistle Golf Club was. Many local golf publications have this the highest rated course in Myrtle Beach. Today we had the privilege to see what all the hype was about. The course backed its reputation and demonstrated why it's earned all the accolades it has. One of the things that stuck out the most was that before the round, two seperate employees encouraged us to putt a few balls, as the greens were rolling just shy of 12 on the stimpmeter. The fact that these staff members not only knew, but seemed proud of the stimp readings, I knew we were in to be blown away. Even though our scores did not reflect it, our whole group felt like tour professionals. The course conditions, the overall ambience of the clubhouse, the level of expertise and knowledge of the staff, and just the whole package blew us away. When we left we told the bag associate this was the nicest course we had played. He joked with us and said "to get any nicer in the southeast, you would have to head to Augusta." He is probably pretty accurate in his joke. This course will leave you in awe. I can not wait to play it again.
  • This is a beautiful and amazingly well kept course. I cannot describe how absolutely beautiful it is. The staff was friendly and helpful and the bag drop off area was very organized. They had everyone situated and ready to go in minutes.
  • 4.75 stars! Thistle spared no expense on amenities at this course. The clubhouse and on-course comfort stations are made of stone and look permanent. The cart loading station is cramped and seemingly disorganized. The golf course is excellent, with many different challenges. The wind was a huge factor the day I played and the course played incredibly long. Errant shots were never found in the thickets lining the holes. The greens were terrific and service was great. Food selection was limited to sandwiches and chips. I'd like to plat it again.
  • Not sure what Ian is talking about, but every time I've been here the starters were laid back and really nice. He must have caught someone on a bad day or he was having one himself. My buddies and I love this course. Probably our favorite around North Myrtle. Heading back to play it again in October.
