Carnifex Ferry Battlefield State Park Reviews
My husband and I got married on the overlook at Carnifex in Oct 2017. The venue was beautiful. Sam, the caretaker of the park, was super helpful with all the questions I had, and the park has a playgr... more »
I enjoy Carnifex on a regular basis. There are several trails that make for a good hike as several connect as you travel through the site. There is informative signs placed throughout the park that ad... more »

Good place to go for a hike, family or group picnic. They usually hold a reenactment of the battle I am thinking every other year, with a pretty good turnout. The grounds are very well maintained along with the various trails. They have plenty of parking, a playground area for the kids, a beautiful overlook of the Gauley River. The house that sets on the property has been used as a museum in the past I am not sure if they still do that or not. They also have breast works built and one cannon on the property. It's an interesting place to spend a few hours if you are in the area and looking for something to do.
I love the history here and learning many things about the area in just this one spot. Nice play ground for all the kids and many different trails for exploring. We always have our family reunion here using one of the gazebos
Absolutely gorgeous lookouts over the Gauley. There are three along the two-mile hiking loop, which is an easy-to moderate trek. The trail is lush with ferns, wild mushrooms (don't forage these), and unique natural formations. The grounds are well-kept with picnic and recreational areas. There are also historical monuments and markers related to the battle that occurred here during the Civil War.
This is a small scale historic battlefield during the beginning of the Civil War. It is very family oriented. Several very nice hiking trails and some beautiful views of the Gauley River. I would suggest packing a picnic lunch. Anyone interested in Civil War history I think would enjoy the visit.
Nice trails and history at the same time. Picnic shelters are available to rent. Nice playground and sand volleyball court
