Monument
A series of coastal defense fortresses built to protect the United States from 1776 to 1947 make up Fort Moultrie. Nine British warships attacked the unfinished and still-unnamed fort in 1776, but they failed to destroy it. Reportedly, cannonballs bounced off its walls, and the ships were forced to retreat. The fort has been restored to portray different periods in its military history, which spanned more than 170 years. Begin your self-guided tour of tour at the visitor center. Here you'll be guided through the fort's transformations in reverse order, starting from World War II. • Well preserved fort with rangers on staff to keep the items pristine and inform the visitors. Wonderful panoramic views and views of fort Sumter. Love the placards with information and the leisurely stroll paths.
  • My wife and I aren't big history nuts, so with that considered we didn't find this to be overly interesting. It's cool to see the evolution of naval defense throughout the years. We spent about an hour going through the dirt and walking down to the beach, which was plenty of time for us! Cool place to swing past though.
  • Summer 2004- my family went to visit fort area. That's free, because on sunday. We go around in fort. Enjoy all day and so hot humid 🌞
  • Definitely recommend seeing. There is alot of history to see and learn about here.
  • Great and cheap park to see a major part of SC history while being able to partake in the beach and sightsee the wide and open harbor view
