  • The plains roll along with native grasses and wildlife and a smattering of buffalo. There are trails to explore and much of the flora is labeled and explained. It's the real Kansas.
  • We were met at the door of the visitor center by Cinda. She was friendly and enthusiastic and told us all about the Prairie and surrounding area without talking too much. This is the best grasslands w...  more »
  • So interesting to see this preserve, as it would have looked hundreds of years ago! The untouched land is great to see, and you can drive right next to almost all of the park. Stop in at the visitors ...  more »

  • Amazing place. Highly recommended! Sure, it's not mountains, but it's unique in its own. I can't compare it to a Mountain park because it's a completely different view. It's the most scenic place in Kansas or near Kansas City. You may be skeptical thinking it's just 'tall grass', but it's more than that. There are basically no trees anywhere so you can see for literally 10's of miles and all directions and the flint hills add to the scenery. Also, the sky is huge and surrounds you. It's quite a unique experience. You won't be disappointed! It's also a place of solitude. I've been on the trail 4 times and one time I never saw 1 other person for 2 hours of hiking in the huge open expanse of the preserve and the other times I only saw a few other people but they get lost in the distance. If you enjoyed this, be sure to check out the Sand Hills area of Nebraska, it has even larger hills and IMO is even more amazing. It's like the flint hills on steroids.
  • I came here once when I was very young and returned again recently. It was great. The trails are nice, very scenic. The bus tour had some even nicer views than the hiking trails did. Our tour guide was a good balance of informative and casual. The barn was very cool, full of interesting old farm appliances. I would definitely suggest this. I think most people would be surprised at how much they would enjoy it.
  • Its fantastic. The views were great. Great place to take the kids. Pics I took didnt come out good.
  • Was there for the Centennial event and it was fun. Good historical presentations. Did the scavenger hunt and walked one of the shorter trails. Bring sunblock, folks but through beating sun will be well worth the beautiful views.
  • Killer views of the Flint Hills and tallgrass prairie. A real look into our past, when tallgrass prairie covered 170 million acres, before being tilled and farmed. 40+ miles of walking trails.
