  • My Fiancee and I camped in the primitive section, near Scout Lake. The place is really beautiful, and the staff could not have been better. But, after trying to sleep ALL night long, and listening to ...  more »
  • Nice State Park with walking trails suited for "city folk"- paved, wide, and still allows you to experience nature. Park offers a variety of activities and programs.
  • You can be the outdoor type here, but still within 5 minutes of shopping. Great for picnics, adventure hiking, great for family time. The history in the area is great as well. This one is not on the u...  more »

  • We have been going to Panola for years! Our scout troop volunteers for Friends of State Parks Day, my kids take archery lessons, and we enjoy various programs throughout the year! One of our favorite things is the guided hike. The interpreter is phenomenal and a GREAT example for girls! What a better way to have them interested in Nature and also show that girls can be anything and be AWESOME!!
  • Cool hiking trail. Not the most photogenic I've hiked, but it was a great experience anyway. Loved the rangers and park workers who told us about the wildlife, especially the snakes. They were under construction when we arrived so it's sure to get better soon.
  • This is a great park. I love it not only because it's 15 minutes from my house, but also the variety of activities, both self- and staff-led. The mountain itself is accessible only via guided hikes, which are held quite regularly; I highly recommend the moonlight hike, which finishes with a campfire and s'mores. The staff is fantastic and there's lots of stuff to do here. Picnic! Playground! Archery! Tree climbing! Reptile Day! Homeschool Thursdays!
  • We went for some fishing. The lakes are maintained very well. A ton of growth around the lake makes it hard to fish. But there were lots of people enjoying the trails.
  • A very nice park with ample places for picnicking and camping and good trails for biking, running or walking with kids and family. $5/day -state park parking fee.
