#2 of 7 in Winter Sports in Steamboat Springs
Ski Area Garden
Relax in a tranquil, well-tended botanical garden abundant with colorful plants and flowers at Yampa River Botanic Park. You can visit the garden between dawn and dusk, from spring until the first heavy snow. The garden sits at an altitude of 2,100 m (6,800 ft) near the Yampa River, with the two-month long frost-free growing season arguably the best time to visit, as summer is dry and sunny, and winters get extremely cold with heavy snows. Sit and enjoy the atmosphere at the pond in the center of the park, then take a closer look at each of the clearly labeled plants. Put Yampa River Botanic Park into our Steamboat Springs vacation route planner to see other points of interest to visit during your vacation in Steamboat Springs.

Where to stay in Steamboat Springs

As with most of the country's ski resorts, room rates increase with proximity to the slopes in Steamboat Springs. Expect to pay the highest rates during the winter holidays, as well as at the peak of the summer season. One of the most economical ways to stay near the slopes is to choose one of the area's inns. These offer every comfort of home at a fraction of the price charged by the big resorts and chain hotels.

  • Lovely little gem tucked in between river and parks! Well done displays with lots of interesting plants and fun little trails all over. And totally free! Fun excursion during the adjacent lacrosse tournament for which we were in town.
  • What a beautiful park! It is completely free to walk around and look at the different gardens. It is definitely worth the time to stop here, especially if you love flowers.
  • Such a beautiful garden, our favorite was the crevice garden. We rented a couple of bikes and took the trail to this garden. It was well worth the time and effort it took to get there on a comfy bike. Highly recommended!
  • This place was amazing and free. It is well worth the time you spend there. Be sure to take a camera because there are plenty of photo ops.
  • One of the best botanic gardens with a great collection of flowering herbs, shrubs, trees and artificial pond. Great place to relax for young and old adults and kids with shady seating place.
