I cannot say enough good things about Snug Harbor for weddings! The atmosphere only embellished the beauty of the wedding! Saturdays weather was beautiful and a perfect time for the outdoors.  more »

Some of the buildings on the large campus date from the early 19th century and were designed by renowned architect Minard LaFever, truly amazing Greek Revival structures. When one walks the campus one...  more »

If I was a tourist I would be very disappointed . The pond is disgusting green slime water. The Neptune fountain is in dire need of an overhaul. Half the time the water isn't even on. The buildings ar...  more »

Such a gem! I'm torn about sharing a positive review about this place because it's not over crowded by tourists and New Yorkers like so many other public parks but then I'd be doing a disservice to Snug Harbor. Unlike the other botanical gardens of the other boroughs this one is free. The gardens are just amazing. So many beautiful flowers and themed gardens. There is a rose garden, an authentic Chinese scholar's garden with koi pond, a Tuscan garden and a secret garden with cobble path maze.

Amazing, wonderful and peaceful place to recharge, heal, rejuvenate and contemplate. With a dozen of small gardens to explore and a unique Chinese Garden - botanic paradise for nature and plants lovers as well as birdwatchers! The Farm is educational and soothing to watch how it changes over the seasons. And SI museum, and all the classes at Art Lab are great, plenty of parking and good public transportation to get there.

Snug Harbor is one of the best attractions in Staten Island but like most other attractions in the area, it suffers from a lack of recognition by visitors (and even locals) and a somewhat inconvenient location. Getting there from Manhattan takes time, requiring at least a ferry ride and a bus transfer. The good thing is the bus stops right by Snug Harbor’s gate. The magnificent buildings have been around since the 1800s and have a proud legacy of ensuring the security and well-being of the retired sailors that called it home. The place looks reasonably tidy and hosts museums, gardens, and historical monuments. Admission is free, except for some of the museums. I spent an entire afternoon in the area, which was enough to wander the grounds and see all buildings, but not visit a museum.

This is the most beautiful place! Unfortunately, I have missed it for forty five years living in New York. I spent my Father's Day here with my daughter. That is the best gift for me from my daughter!

Great place for a cultural event-optimal parking, outdoor socializing and scenic space, stage, lighting and accoustics, backstage and bathroom facilities, comfortable and unobstructed viewing- everything you could want from an entertainment venue. I was pleasantly surprised and highly recommend that you visit or rent this locale.
