  • When we plan our trip to San Francisco, the most difficult was choosing which wineries visited in NAPA. We chose Smith Madrone because despite promoting very good wines, they currently not charged by the tasting and this caused us a curiosity. Was the second Winery to visit after Grgich Hills and before V-Sattui. Really were delighted with the hospitality of Charlie Smith, one of its owners, that also speaks enough Spanish. We saw through his anecdotes and the wines tasted, the passion and the love that makes its wines. They are absolutely exquisite. We are left with the desire to return to continue chatting and enjoying the beautiful stories of Charlie and tasty wines that produce. Tip: Take shelter in winter because the winery does very cold and gps to get, given that is at the top of Spring Mountain. Highly recommended the visit to this Winery.

  • We attended a wine tasting tour and really enjoyed it. By appointment only. Hosted by owner Charlie Smith. Very unpretentious. The wines were very special. This is not some Epcot version of CA winerie...  more »
  • What a find. This is a great, small winery on Spring Mountain, started by Charlie and Stu Smith and still run by them, now with the help of Stu's son, Sam. There is nothing fancy or pretentious here, ...  more »

  • Amazing wine and great company. This place is a must see during a Napa visit. The view is out of this world as well. Don't forget to say hi to Curley, the vineyard dog, he'd love you to throw his ball.
  • We happened to find by accident.. owner is extremely down to earth , very knowledgeable on his wines. great sense of humor slightly dry but with great taste just like his Riesling Fabulous!!!
  • My Wife and a few friends stopped by and met with Charlie. I am very impressed with how warm and welcoming he was to our party (9 of us in total) rolling up on him in our ostentatious stretch hummer like a bachelor party from hell. Not only were we a large group in an absurdly over sized gaudy limo, we were a 1/2 hour late for our appointment and 5/9th's of our group needed to use the restroom as soon as we arrived... (The limo came stocked with cheap champagne, and we brought a bottle or two of our own which was slightly better, but gone nonetheless by the time we arrived at Charlie's a half hour late at 11:30 in the morning.. With a big warm smile and firm handshake, we used the restroom and then sampled the absolutely best wine we had the joy of experiencing in two full days of touring the valleys. the simple fact that he opened one of his 2007 Cooks Flat Reserve for us to sample is a testament to his generosity and confidence in his wine. It is simply amazing. He did not have to do that for our party. We were already blown away. A bit too pricey for me to get a case, I am however, delighted to purchase a full case of his Riesling, and if you know whats good, you will get some too, before its all gone. Thanks Charlie! we all enjoyed your presentation very much, and I am sure we will back! Robert, Melissa, Liat, Ben, Meagan, Nick, Robin, Mark and Christa
  • We enjoyed the wines--they are excellent. The drive up Spring Mountain Road offers fantastic views of the valley and the mountains beyond. The history of the winery and vineyards is also very interesting--the presentation by one of the owners was very low key, unpretentious and informative. This is a must see in wine country.
  • Mr. Smith was warm and engaging and his passion for his wines does with every sip. We loved the Cab and the Riesling was a great surprise with its crisp snappy finish. Probably my favorite of the trip.
