  • We had a tasting there a few years back when they were going thru a remodel. They had trailers setup for tasting and all in all it was still a great tasting. We will have to visit again since I'm sure the new/remodeled facility is exceptional. Either way great wines and great people.
  • A money-grab place with ok wines - not great. To start, I found the tasting at $70 quite pricey even by Napa standards, given that we were tasting current releases, without any food pairings. Moreover, it is typical that a library wine is served at the end, a wine not on the list - out of dozens of tastings I have done, I believe this was the first ones to not do so. Lastly, when it came to the wine purchase, it is typical to either wave the tasting fee given a certain level of purchase (especially when no food was served), or extend a member's discount for the purchase. They have not done either. The kick: their flagship wine could be found at my local wine store for 20%less than what they were selling it for! Same vintage and all. Why any stars at all: great views, attentive hosts.
  • We came to Joseph Phelps on day two of our four day stay in Napa. We arrived around 11:30am and were checked in in a blink of an eye. A few minutes later a new friend that we met at the Silver Oak tasting the day before arrived and we were all set to start the fun! I've been a member of Phelps Wine Club for over 3 years now, this gives me the opportunity to visit Phelps complimentary and bring a total of 4 people. They served all their current release lineups, from their Chardonnays, Pinot Noirs, Cabernet, to the Insignia! Backus was not available because they were serving it on specific events and times of the year. We also tasted the future 2016 Insignia from which I exclaimed from inside my soul; "This is the best youngest thing I have ever had!" I want you to picture this, beautiful views, excellent wines, knowledgeable personnel in a newly built tasting facility, what else can you ask for? When we were about to finish I realized that most of the wines we tried I had already drank them or have them in my cellar, so I found one of the managers and managed to get something a little bit older, something that really made up for the 3,164.6 miles traveled. They accommodated this in a classic fashion, when they were selecting the wine I went to the restroom and when I came back the wine was already served, my girlfriend asked me if I could guess what it was and I nailed it, a 2002 Joseph Phelps Insignia that blew my mind, after the fact I researched it and it was rated 100 pts by Robert Parker! Here are my ratings to all visited wineries by alphabetical order, for details on each one look for my reviews: Services - Wine - Overall Alpha Omega 5 5 5 Darioush 5 5 5 Duckhorn 1 3 2 Hendry 5 4 4 Joseph Phelps 5 5 5+ Merryvale 5 4 5 Merus 5 5 5+ Ovid 5 5 5 Paraduxx 4 3 4 Rombauer 5 4 5+ Silver Oak 5 4 5 I'm a huge fan of Phelps wines from day one, a big supporter
  • Having been 10+ times, I can say you will always learn something new here. The JPV staff is so welcoming and gracious. Definitely plan your trip to the valley around one of their tastings.
  • This place is a Napa Valley Masterpiece and should be on everybody's Winery bucket list. Planning ahead it's easy to get an appointment from a long variety of extraordinary tasting options that they offer on the property. Choose one, and be prepared to learn more about wine than any other setting. Getting access to the grounds alone makes it all worthwhile.
