Where to stay in St. Helena

Because St. Helena is nestled in upscale wine country, most people who visit have no intention of roughing it. As such, the city sports a number of luxurious hotels. Several boast restaurants, hot tubs, and swimming pools; however, keep in mind that those with extensive grounds tend to be farther away from the main street. Budget-conscious travelers can find some more basic motels (looking farther out of town is a good way to save a few dollars). However, those staying on the outskirts should be aware that parking--particularly during high season--can be challenging in the city.

  • Very good wine tasting in this relatively small winery. The staff are very knowledgeable and friendly. Usually not crowed and comfortable stone building for tastings. All their wines are good to taste...  more »

  • Dont get me wrong , the place and the tasting room are awesome but the wine itself.... i still dong get how it made its history, but even their top Marthas vineyards wine is nothing special at all! Why would anyone pay over 200$ for a bottle of it is still a mystery to me!
  • Stopped off here in July during my trip to Napa. Have been a fan of Heitz for decades. I was shocked that there were no tasting fees. They opened a bottle of an awesome 2002 Trailside Vineyard cabernet for me to taste. I couldn't help but buy a couple of bottles of it to take home! Hard to find properly aged cabernet these days!
  • This place came highly recommended from one of the bigger wineries in Napa and they did not disappoint. They offer a free tasting, a rarity in Napa, and the wines are actually good. As well as the view. If you re touring Napa then this should be a stop off on your trip.
  • Probably the only place in Napa with good wine you can taste for free without a reservation.
  • It's not a big winery but they have complementary wine tasting. The staffs there are very friendly. A friend went there a week ago and did some shopping. This time he brings a big group of 10 and the staffs are exciting to see us. They even let us try a 1998 Cabernet. We do a big shopping this time...
