  • Really enjoyed visiting here and finding out about some part of history that I had no idea about. It ties in with the fort in St. Augustine and would be best to visit here first then there.  more »

  • Fort Moses is a hidden gem. Since there is no longer an actual fort, people don't go here. You miss out on some nice trails, spectacular views, and a nice museum.
  • If you love history, you'll love this state park. They specialize in African-American history, as Gracia Real de Santa Theresa de Mose was the first government established free town for Spanish freedmen. The town/fort was autonomous, and was the last line of defense for Saint Augustine. It was taken once by the British, and retaken within days by the Mose garrison and the Castillo de san Marcos forces, with help from local native Americans. There is an excellent museum, and two boardwalks out to the salt marshes. One of the boardwalks overlooks the actual fort site. There is great opportunity to observe wildlife of the salt marshes. They have a plan in the works to build a re-creation of the fort in the future. They also have events regularly, reenactments and programs detailing the history of Mose and it's relevance to our state and nation's history.
  • It was very peaceful outside but there wasn't much to do. Great things to learn about and a perfect area to be in when you want some peace and quiet.
