Flagler College, St. Augustine

(4.7/5 based on 3,200+ reviews on the web)
Explore the historical campus of Flagler College, named after the famous industrialist Henry Morrison Flagler. You can wander the grounds on your own or take a student-led tour that grants access to more rooms. The centerpiece of the campus is Ponce de Leon Hall. The Spanish Renaissance-style building, a National Historic Landmark, was built in 1888 as a luxurious hotel, but today serves as a dining hall and residence hall for female students. Gaze up at the dining hall ceiling to see 200 hand-painted lions with lightbulbs in their mouths. The building also has colorful stained-glass windows and mosaics. Leave time to relax in the scenic college grounds. Add Flagler College to your St. Augustine travel itinerary, and discover new vacation ideas by using our St. Augustine trip builder.

  • What a Beautiful Place, i cant imagine to study here....that would be so tranquil. Inside you can have a Guided Tour.... A small part of the collage can be done by yourself. But keep in mind that there are restrictions entering certain hallways since this is still a College. In my opinion this is by far the best place to go to if you visit Saint augustine first. They provide beautiful restrooms for men and women.
  • Although my husband and I have walked the campus a few times, it wasn't until a recent visit that we decided to go on the tour. At a gift shop just inside the entrance we purchased our tickets and were led around by a student guide with probably 50 other people. I would definitely recommend going on the tour! We learned how Flagler College used to be the Ponce de Leon Hotel and how the rooms were redesigned to be dorm rooms, but you can't see those since they are occupied. The guide also teaches you about the architectural choices, the artists that did the jaw-dropping murals in the lobby and dining hall, and Henry Flagler. Going on the tour is the only way to see inside the dining hall and museum area with artifacts from the Flagler's and the time period of the hotel. On a side note, the doors to the restrooms in the lobby are heavy -impressively built.
  • Beautiful. Quaint. Historic. Clean. Cozy. Welcoming. Would have loved to see the dorms. Tried to encourage one of my four to look into the majors. Who wouldn't want to be somewhere warm and beautiful!
  • Never attended classes here but it has a building seems second to none. Looks like it was hewn from one giant piece of rock but instead it was build like all the rest from smaller components. Looks solid like it was however. It is gigantic and is still done in a completely artistic way right down to the mace balls used as fence decoration that say don't tread on this building's grass in a classy way. I could spend all day just snapping pictures here.
  • Beautiful College to just walk around and see the history and architecture
