Fantastic Caverns, Springfield

Categories: Caves, Nature & Parks
Inspirock Rating:
3.9/5 based on 900+ reviews on the web
Take an underground journey to see and touch the majestic geological features of Fantastic Caverns. Since its discovery in 1862, the cave has had a dynamic history. During prohibition it was used as a speakeasy, and later as a concert venue. Today it's a major attraction that draws more than 100,000 visitors every year. Taking a tour of the cave doesn't require any walking, making it especially convenient for small children and seniors. You can see the entire cave from the comfort of a jeep-drawn tram hosted by a tour guide. At certain spots, you are allowed to touch the stalactites. The temperature inside the cave is a steady 15 degrees C (60 degrees F) throughout the year, so you might want to bring a light jacket or a sweater. Put Fantastic Caverns on your schedule, and learn what else deserves a visit by using our Springfield tour planner.

  • We went to this attraction because one of us ladies was handicapped and the ride would allow her to see the caverns. I've seen more spectacular caverns for less money, so this seemed overpriced. Then ...  read more »
  • There seemed to be no tourist discount for this and the fares are a bit expensive for the duration - we thought this was ok given that this is run by family. But we didn't expect to be presented with ...  read more »

  • You feel welcome from the moment you walk in the door. Breathtaking!!! Neat history lesson. Awesome that you actually can ride through this cavern. You can take your camera. The tour guide was entertaining and you could tell he Loved giving the tours. The memory photo is very affordable. Gift shop was full of unique stone artwork at affordable prices.
  • Brandon was our tour guide and he was great. Very knowledgable and was also funny. Even made my husband laugh :) The tour itself was also wonderful. Love the caverns and will continue to come back anytime we are in the area.
  • Enjoyed our tour this past weekend. Our tour guide was very friendly and very knowledgeable. He patiently answered all questions and also had a sense of humor, not mechanical. Thanks Senior tour guide.
  • Only place in America where you can go on a spelunking adventure in a moving tram with open air visability... watch your head! Great stories are told of its history. You get to "experience" the olden day music performers on a movie screen when you are deep in the caverns. And it is ALWAYS 60 degrees inside the cave. Also worthy of mention is a true cave is the safest place to be in an earthquake. It is the strongest natural structure around. Music, history of gangsters, schoolrooms and dancing is awaiting you. I won't give away any more of the details. Experience it for your whole family!
  • It was a fun and interesting trek into the caves! There's a nice shop as well with some geological finds and historical facts as well as souvenirs. However the big room needs better signage so people know where to go when they come in. The staff are energetic and great at guiding your tours and most have ties to the owners of the property.
