Fantastic Caverns, Springfield
(3.9/5 based on 900+ reviews on the web)
Take an underground journey to see and touch the majestic geological features of Fantastic Caverns. Since its discovery in 1862, the cave has had a dynamic history. During prohibition it was used as a speakeasy, and later as a concert venue. Today it's a major attraction that draws more than 100,000 visitors every year. Taking a tour of the cave doesn't require any walking, making it especially convenient for small children and seniors. You can see the entire cave from the comfort of a jeep-drawn tram hosted by a tour guide. At certain spots, you are allowed to touch the stalactites. The temperature inside the cave is a steady 15 degrees C (60 degrees F) throughout the year, so you might want to bring a light jacket or a sweater. Put Fantastic Caverns on your schedule, and learn what else deserves a visit by using our Springfield tour planner.

  • If you have never been in a cavern, or have mobility issues, this might be the tour for you. If not, the price is too high for what you get. You ride into the cavern on an open-top trolley, see a movi...  more »
  • Totally awesome! Jarod was so informative couldn't believe how much details he knew. Everyone should experience this. The temperature is always the same year round in the 60's.
  • I loved our tour! Our tour guide was great, informative and funny. I loved that you didn't have to worry about a ton of stairs, you just get to ride through. Watch your head though! Beautiful cave and...  more »

  • I lived in Springfield MO for 20 plus years and I had never been. So wife and I were wanting to do something with the kids.3, 5,7,10,13 . So I will say it cost us a hundred dollars to see this but they did have a special , an extra five dollars a ticket you could get a season pass. Kids loved it. wife and I had a great time. Learning experience. Ride though cave. Tour guide Rick was great gave high fives to my kids. And answered any questions.
  • Very enjoyable. Perfect for my wife who is handicapped and can no longer go on long walks through caves. Would have been nice if tour also went through the attractive grounds in area. Don't expect riding through miles of caves, it isn't that big, but cave is attractive and tour is informative and fun.
  • You feel welcome from the moment you walk in the door. Breathtaking!!! Neat history lesson. Awesome that you actually can ride through this cavern. You can take your camera. The tour guide was entertaining and you could tell he Loved giving the tours. The memory photo is very affordable. Gift shop was full of unique stone artwork at affordable prices.
  • Brandon was our tour guide and he was great. Very knowledgable and was also funny. Even made my husband laugh :) The tour itself was also wonderful. Love the caverns and will continue to come back anytime we are in the area.
  • What a disappointment. A fairly lame tour on a motorized train. I would have enjoyed it more if we walked the tour however its aimed at the average fat lazy American.
