The park offers horseback riding, camping, and a boat launch, but I love it for the trails. Great hiking paths - easy to follow and diverse enough to keep things interesting. Walk through the trees, a... more »
This is a nice park with many walking trails, it has a public boat launch, a campground, lots of areas to fish. They have a small store with small boat/canoe rental. more »

Honestly one of my most favorite parks in the area. They enforce the no alcohol and quiet hours policies so you can enjoy a restful sleep. My only bad experience was the last time I was there, checking in at 6:00 they said they were ready to cancel my pre-paid reservation. Ranger said that since it was 6pm and there was only one registered camper they "expected it would be a no show". Sorry I am a solo tent camper.
Spent the weekend there and had a mixed experience. Everything under my control was great. Food, fun and friends. The problem we had was with overzealous rangers. Sitting around Friday night we had an extra car and had already planned (and paid) to park the extra car at the boat launch. A ranger stopped by and challenged us asking if anyone was going home, then after we told him we had it covered based on their rules he asked for proof. The next night, he's back. One of our friends was going to leave that night to go home. About 9:15 he rolls by and tells us visiting hours are over at 9 and the guy needs to decide to stay, or leave now. Let's ignore the party happening three plots down. With people parked illegally in an empty plot across the way. Also two police cars parked on the road running for an hour. We inquire to make sure everything is ok because there are cops there and the ranger let's us know that cops are all over and live locally, and so does he. He clearly didn't want us there and he wanted to find a reason to ask us to leave. Put plainly the guy was a jerk. The following morning we noticed beer bottles sitting on people's tables. Alcohol is not allowed. If you aren't part of whatever secret society they have going on, you clearly will be harassed. We won't be going back.
Extremely unhappy with this place. The nearest bathroom was closed for cleaning for 2 hours over it s scheduled time without any kind of notice when it would be open again. No one would answer the phone at the office when called and no one would answer the doors of the bathroom. I understand this is a campground but this was still not acceptable. We waiting for 45 minutes for the bathroom to open and then had to walk back to our campsite to get our car since the other bathroom was too far away.
I've been full time RV for a little over a year and have stayed at this park several times. The fishing, horseback riding, water activities are wonderful. The privacy of the sites in Fox Den are great as well. The only issue I have encountered EVERY time I've stayed here are RUDE hosts. Seriously, there is ZERO customer service at the front gate from the time you arrive, to every time you return after 8pm. You'd think they'd get to know regular paying customers!! Not at all. Don't expect to catch a night Cubs, Sox, Brewers or Bears game, the front gate will be locked by the time you get back to the park and it's a hike!! Most of the hosts don't even like each other, and it shows! ARE YOU PAYING ATTENTION MANAGEMENT
Close to the city, good campsites in the woods.
