Visited here during recent trip to Wyoming. It was interesting to tour the buildings and to learn about the time of the gold mines.

Reliving history and envisioning what it was like as pioneers, settlers along the Oregon Trail during the gold boom. As you enter South Pass City you'll pass a historic gold mine which is this accessible. The town itself, even though some of the buildings are missing gives visitors an idea to where one's imagination takes you back. Some of the buildings still here include a hotel/saloon, another saloon, jailhouse and a butcher shop. They also have a souvenir store filled with of course souvenirs and items not for sale which possibly came from back then. Children can try their hand at panning for gold while the adults walk Main Street. While visiting South Pass, be sure to also check out Atlantic City a couple miles up the dirt road.
Really cool place to visit! Kids will love it too. Most of the buildings in the old mining town are open to tour. Volunteers and staff in historical attire are there to answer questions. There is a saloon that sells sasparilla and neat gift shop with unique souvenirs.
South pass city is a great place for a family vacation. Be sure to go through the mine tour. You'll be amazed by all the original equipment at the mine. They also have the historic town with a small store. While in the town you can stop in to the store and get a pan to pan for gold in the river. The whole family love the trip
