  • Visited with my family this summer. It was perfect for strolling around with the little ones and my mom (in her 60's) also loved it! We made a day out of it and brought our own picnic lunch. We had a ...  more »
  • What a joy to travel along the path to view the former Vacation dwellings of the rich and famous of long ago. A great insight into their lifestyle. Free, lots of parking, and lovely views of the lake....  more »

  • I love this place!!! Call me a nerd, but the rich history of this place is so incredible. It is fun to see how people of a different era experienced Lake Tahoe. I like to consider it the "Downton Abbey of Lake Tahoe" because it was a get away for elite, wealthy families in the 1800's complete with separate quarters for maids, butlers, gardeners, chauffeurs, tutors and more. The views of the lake are beautiful too, and the site is very easy to access and close to other nearby hiking sights. The next day, my family and I rented a pontoon boat and I got to experience what it looked like from the lake, which I never have before and it is breathtaking. Definitely great for families, whether you're doing an affordable tour, or a self tour. Support our National Parks!
  • I really enjoyed walking around with my friends here, it was entertaining and fun to find surprises along the way. There's a lot of history to learn from and antiques to see. There was an old firetruck, cottages, cars, boat pieces, and other cool things to see. I also found a nice lady with her own gallery of paintings which were very beautiful. Great experience!
  • The most beautiful and relaxing spot on the lake. The lakeside homes and grounds have been restored to their former glory of when they were built by the captains of industry in the later 1890's and early 1900's and now maintained and run by dedicated volunteers. The parking is free as well as well as strolling the grounds and lake access. Bring a picnic lunch and sit in the shade under the massive pine trees. Paved paths take you around the grounds and are handicap accessible.
  • Looking for something different to do in Tahoe, I found this interesting historic site. It vaguely reminds me of the grounds at Kenedy mine. Well manicured homes of the rich and famous from 100+ years ago. Kids found it interesting to see the small rooms used by the butler and gardener vs the large house used by the family.
  • Always a good place to visit. Walking around the various buildings with the lakefront views and seeing how "the other half" lived almost a hundred years ago is like taking a step back in time. We took a picnic lunch and had a grand time enjoying the time there while our daughters swam in the lake.
