  • While staying at The Ridge Tahoe, the guy at the concierge desk told us about this place. It's not that well marked from highway 50, but it's not hard to find. Upon arrival (they can fit maybe 4 cars on their small parking area), from 10 AM to 6 PM 7 days a week, you can do some super easy Trout fishing. It's great for kids with minimal adult supervision during the spring, summer and fall seasons. Grab a pole with a bob, then you get a bucket with salmon eggs and worms for bait, a metal pipe for whacking the Trout on the head to knock it out and a piece of cloth to hold the fish while you give it a much needed K.O.. You drop your pole with the bait into one of the two "Trout farms" and wait a little while and then pull the Trout out and drop it wiggling and all into the nets that are supplied. For kids all of this stuff is really easy and fun without the hassle of waiting a very long time just to get the basic fishing experience. After the Trout is captured, the staff will clean it there for you and then you can take it with you to eat or have it prepared for eating at one of a few approved nearby restaurants. The website has several recipes on how to best eat the trout. For a fun fishing experience that young kids can tolerate, Tahoe Trout Farm is highly recommended.
  • The trout farm is set a block off Tahoe Blvd in a residential area. You wouldn't know there was a trout farm if not for the signs. There are two ponds and when we went the larger pond was stocked. I brought my kid for a first fishing experience. Having been at a trout farm before as a kid, I hooked the worm loosely so the fish could bite and get away. I wanted my kid to experience the feel of a fish tugging at a line a few times before baiting the hook to make the final catch. Then the slimy feel of the fish squirming out of his hands in the bucket is priceless. Pricing is based on length of the fish and they charge an extra buck for cleaning the fish. We took it back to the Marriott Timber Lodge hotel where we had a full kitchen and I deboned the fillets for two days worth of eating. I'm used to having white meat trout. The ones they have are pink meat like salmon. Overall a visit to the trout farm made for a great family experience and it was nice to have a truly fresh piece of fish for dinner.
  • It was my daughter's first time fishing and the guy working was so kind to us and took his time explaining everything. She caught two fish and was so proud! It was a great experience.
  • Great place for the kids first fishing experience. They have all the rods, bait and tackle you need to fish at their pond. The trout was also very tasty to eat. We will be back.
  • Kids love the place! Owner was very helpful. Just bring a good attitude and your good to go. Has benches and tables you can use while your kids fish.
