Pope Beach, South Lake Tahoe

4.5
#1 of 7 in Beaches in Lake Tahoe (California)
Relax in a peaceful, secluded area of Lake Tahoe at Pope Beach. Sheltered by pine trees and mountains, this shore generally remains uncrowded, with facilities including picnic tables, barbecue grills, and restrooms. Stretch out on the clean sand or take a dip in the shallow water, which is also perfect for children. If you bring food, remember to keep it covered in case seagulls swoop in. If driving, bring cash for the parking fee. Put Pope Beach at the forefront of your travel plans using our South Lake Tahoe road trip tool .

  • Pope beach is a nice area to just relax and to get closer to the Lake. Also, it wasn't crowded when we were there.  more »
  • The beach has no waves so it is great for families with kids because you do not have to worry a lot when the small ones run into the water.  more »

  • A calm place to go kayaking and swimming on summer. Don't forget your sandals, the sand gets super hot.
  • Great beach. Come here with family and friends. BBQ pits and picnic tables line the beach front. Mellow water depth keeps it warmer but the real estate also fills up real quick during the busy times in the summer. Wake up early, get here and lay down your blanket!
  • This is our go to beach, but get with the times and start accepting cards! Experiencing all of our beautiful state parks would be much easier if they accepted modern forms of payment. An app perhaps if not card? Bring cash only (no change unless you want some serious attitude and head shaking ) our spot at the end of the parking lot has a major red ant population. Each of us was bitten last visit. Feeling like it's time to branch out in hopes of finding a new shady beach.
  • The beach is fantastic, but it needs it's services expanded. Unless you pee in the water, you had at least a 15 minute wait to use the bathroom. They were filthy and out of soap all three days we used the beach. Don't even think about pooping. The water was super clear and it has very unique and beautiful orange sand. We will probably come back here again someday if we come to south lake Tahoe. We would give it a five star rating if the bathrooms were upgraded and soap was available.
  • Great place to soak in the water and the view. The walk to the beach from the parking lot is short. Watch for the Canadian geese-they can be aggressive! There's even a mobile snack bar. It can be crowded though.
