University of Notre Dame, South Bend

(4.7/5 based on 650+ reviews on the web)
Visit historic University of Notre Dame to learn about its prestigious history. Take a tour from the visitor center and see the Grotto of Our Lady Lourdes, a one-17th-size replica of the famed 1896 grotto in France. On hushed feet, explore Basilica of the Sacred Heart, an intricately designed Gothic-style church decorated in the university's colors of blue and gold. At the main building, also known as Golden Dome, you can see the 8 m (19 ft) gilded statue of Mary that adorns the top. The Hesburgh Library, which opened in 1963, serves as a modern addition to the university's buildings with an external mural of Jesus, commonly known as "touchdown Jesus," containing 81 different types of stones from 16 countries. The mural faces the Notre Dame stadium. By using our South Bend itinerary planner, you can arrange your visit to University of Notre Dame and other attractions in South Bend.

  • Do not....I repeat DO NOT go to South Bend without a visit to Notre Dame campus! It's a lot of walking so try and go in the spring, summer or fall. You can even buy a meal in one of the dinning halls ...  more »
  • Love the old architecture and the history of this great school. Used to live, almost, across the street from it. Had a few good times there in the past.

  • Awesome School! I've seen a whole floor at Breen Phillips Hall attended by students devoted to be Attorneys. Now fifty years later some are retired Judges. The students that attend there are the sons and daughters of our Nations Finest Leaders. My Grand Daughter will be there, and beware! So walks the Lord! All others need not apply! And you know who you are!

  • I'm so glad that I am able to attend this school. I'm truly blessed and will always be IRISH for life! If you have the opportunity to attend this school, consider yourself extremely lucky. The community is extremely knowledgeable and brilliant, while maintaining a level of humility that almost does not exist at other prestigious schools. These people will help you up when you are down and push you to go further than you could have ever imagined, all while maintaining a strong emphasis on philantrophy and community service.
  • Breathtakingly beautiful campus of education, administered & being managed by extremely talented faculty & students.May God Bless this institution to become the best.
