Our tour guide (Damon - Bliss Wine Tours) selected Schug for us based on our interest on Chardonnays and Pinot Noirs. We met Mary in the Schug cave where she presented to us three different choices fo...  more »

The focus at Schug is on the WINE! For years I have found their Pinot Noir to be the gold standard of this delicate varietal. Long before "Sideways" put Pinot Noir into the American lexicon, it has be...  more »

Really nice venue and a great experience wine tasting. My favorite was the 2016 Sonoma Coast Sauvignon Blanc. I also really liked the 2014 Sonoma Coast Pinot Noir, Sangiacomo Vineyard. Small tasting r...  more »

Our last vineyard stop, we were more interested in their self-guided tour through the vineyards, but be prepared for extreme heat and sunshine! The bartender was super fun; there was no push for buying anything (unlike most other vineyards). We got to try a late harvest chardonnay that was delightful!

Went because of good things I heard about the pinots. However, the chardonnay surprised me in a great way. I don't like the usual buttery concoction. Their's had some interesting tastes to it. But what made this great was the staff. We were helped by Harrison. He knew his stuff with interesting takes on wine and history. It was obvious he really enjoyed his job and believes in Schug. Also, really liked the winery itself. It feels quaint and similar to a family European winery. Plus, surrounded by amazing hillside scenery.

Great experience here! We stopped after checking reviews for a bunch of places, and we had agreed to only stop at 2 wineries max. This was our first choice. Absolutely amazing experience! Thom was fantastic and walked us through the tasting as well as gave us great recommendations for places to see in the surrounding area (we were traveling through on a 2 month road trip). We had to pull straws on which wines to buy, settled on the Malbec and Pinot noir, and are more than satisfied with our whole experience! Thanks y'all!

My experience here wasn't my best tasting room experience in terms of service, although the person working was friendly and attentive without being over bearing. She also seemed a little withdrawn and disinterested. This is a little out of the way, but the wine was spectacular. We tasted 5 wines for $10, and each just got better; there were several not available for tasting that day that I would certainly enjoy trying or perhaps buying. The sparkling Pinot Noir was very interesting, though my favorite of their offerings was the chardonnay. Their distribution varies depending on whether the grapes are estate grown or purchased, as that they do both. I definitely plan to be back with my husband so that he can try their wines, too.

Where to stay in Sonoma

Prices for accommodations in Sonoma are often high. The hotels on or near the town square offer an unbeatable location for experiencing the city's many cultural delights, but you'll pay extra for the convenience. Properties located farther out are more economical and quiet, and provide easy access to Sonoma's stunning countryside. If you are planning a longer holiday, consider booking a vacation rental that feels like a home away from home.
