Alaska Raptor Center, Sitka

4.7
Working to protect and rehabilitate the state's many species of predatory birds, Alaska Raptor Center is one of the most extensive organizations of its kind in the country. The facility is set on nearly 7 ha (17 acres) of forest and is home to birds of prey, some of whom will be rehabilitated and eventually released into the wild and some of whom are permanent residents due to their injuries. One of the center's crowning features is its massive flight training center, an enclosed outdoor area where recovering eagles can practice the hunting, landing, and flight skills that may have degraded during their incapacitation. Be sure to watch the birds in action from the viewing corridor. Add Alaska Raptor Center to your Sitka travel itinerary, and discover new vacation ideas by using our Sitka holiday planner.

  • What an experience!! This center was an amazing, must see stop! The people are so knowledgeable and the birds there, whether destine to fly free or stay protected on site, are breathtaking, awe inspiring, and a must-see!! We meet a show stopping Snow owl, watched 27 bald eagles in a flight tunnel and many more birds safely healing, and living it up!
  • Educational and worth while visit. Nice 30 minute walk from ships. Wonderful salmon fishery, totem/native museum and rain forest stops on the way. Great self guided alternative to the expensive ship tours! Saw two wild bald eagles eating fish on the way...
  • This was an absolutely great place to visit. We were able to walk there from the cruise ship port. The path was relatively flat and well-marked. It was easy to get close up pictures of some amazing Raptors and the presentation was enjoyable. This was my first visit here but I would definitely come again next time. The staff was both knowledgeable and friendly.
  • Very cool place. Down the trail there is a stream behind this place and the salmon we're in spawning season. I have never seen so many fish in my life in one spot.
  • Such an awesome place. They are helping to rehabilitate injured birds so they can go back in the wild. Support this establishment!!
