  • It's one thing to visit a mine, which we did, but to follow that by visiting a mill that processed the ore is even better. From the crushers to the skimmers, the entire process is explained in the pla...  more »
  • You can walk all over inside this mill. There is a lot to see and it looks as if everyone just got up and walked out one day so it really represents what it would have looked like on a normal operatin...  more »
  • The Mayflower Mill has a self guided walking tour that is very educational. It is best to tour the Old Hundred Gold Mine tour and then go to the mill to learn how processed the ore. The mill closed in...  more »

  • So what happens after ore leaves a mine? How do they extract gold and silver from ore? The self guided tour at the Mayflower gold mill tells you everything you need to know. It's well worth the $8 admission. The tour starts with an informative video describing the gold rush in silverton and describing the gold and mineral milling process. Then you walk through the mill and see the machines. You can even start some of the machines. Be careful if you have young kids. The tour doesn't look kid-proof.
  • This is the most interesting tour ever and they let you just wonder around and do whatever. Some of the machines even turn on. So cool.
  • Very cool mine
  • I was there in August of 2011. We just happened to spot the sign along the road and turned in. If you like learning the details of things you'll enjoy the tour. Young kids might not be so entertained. They have created raised walkways with railings in between much of the equipment so you can get up close and personal with much of it. There is technology that was used since the early days and some that was put into use just before the place stopped operating. You can even turn some of it on to see how it moved. It was self guided and we spent about an hour poking around. I forget the specifics but I think it was running until about the mid 1990's. Definitely recommended.
