  • Always a treat. Nice visitor center. Going in the fort towers is a blast for the kids. The people in period uniforms are awesome. On prior trips we visited for a holiday or special event where even mo...  more »
  • Many historical sites I have been to do not have workers available to tell you more about the site. It was really nice to go and have someone around to explain the history in more detail!  more »
  • The staff did a great job of bringing history alive, and our group (20 elementary students and about twenty adults) were given lots of freedom to explore at will. There were reenactors there the day w...  more »

  • My wife and I took three boys, ages 10, 8, and 4 here to visit on a day off school. The oldest had been studying Missouri history along with local Indian culture. The museum on the site is very interesting with lots of artifacts and reproductions of early 1800s items. Also quite well done is a animated display of the geological history of North America as well as a static display of the Missouri River valley geology. I recommend a visit for both kids and adults. Don’t miss the Lewis and Clark trail marker, a short walk down to the river.
  • It was a hot day and this stop was an afterthought. The visitors center/museum was air conditioned. There was an exhibit in the basement. The best part of this landmark is the fort. Particularly the three floor merchant shop. I would like to come during a special event. Our guide was knowledgeable and great with the kids. He even wore time period clothing in spite of the heat and slow day.
  • Beautiful old fort. The buildings are fun but don't take long to see. If your making this a trip wait until they have an event here. On occasions they have events which often have have blacksmith, leatherman, soldiers, and more. Great view of the Missouri River from the visitor center with lots for the kids to see and do.
  • Founded in 1808 Fort Osage was established as both a US Army installation and a government Trade installation for treaty Indians. Military operations were commanded by Captain Eli Clemson while Trade was overseen by Factor George Sibley. Currently, the reconstruction consists of the Trade Facilities and Military compound. Though Fort Osage covered a much larger area when first completed, the present facilities are quite impressive. Across the river, directly opposite the Fort, one can view the location of the campsite location used by Lewis and Clark and the Corp's of Discovery. Two other surprises await you when you visit. The Education Center includes Audio/Video presentations as well as temporary exhibits on the upper floor. The lower floor hosts the museum educationalal displays. Topics include early land and river formation, indigenous plant and wildlife, Archaeology in the Park, the Osage People, Lewis and Clark and Missouri River use both past and present. The Military Cemetery is located on the southern end of the Park. Fort Osage NHL is owned and operated by Jackson County and admission fee is required. The site is a "must visit" for all. Additional information regarding the Site and special programming can be found on Jackson County's website.
  • A small historic place with limited decent facilities, one cannot spend a long time here with family and friends.
