  • When we start from Buffalo we immerse ourselves in the epic western, and the suggestions are boosted emerging from our imagination. After a few miles a detour brings us at Fort Phil Kearny, built in 1866 from June to October in Sioux territory plan. These then were led by big Chief Red Cloud (Augh!) and they were never frightening. While I wander among the ruins of the Fort that actually resembles those of wood that rich kids had to play toy soldiers (I never had one) to this true it seems even simpler, very low, less than two metres, with one split in half a meter in height which debunks the other side makes it all the more palpable fatigue and danger. This Fort was the focus of several episodes of the Indian wars, and one of them is ' commemorated nearby. A column of stones supporting a large badge reminiscent of how the 21 December 1866 76 between infantry and cavalry were killed therein under the command of Colonel Fetterman plus six civilians in tow, attacked by an overwhelming mass of Sioux, led by red cloud, the strategist. "There were no survivors," said the inscription. I can't help but think that it is somewhat partisan report. The territory was Sioux, who probably died in five to one ratio, that is over three hundred, and many Indians still survived. But don't count the winners write history.

  • Terrific staff, very knowledgeable about Fort & Wagon Box Fight/Fetterman Massacre. Interpretative trails are very well done.
  • I loved that there is still a wooden surround to make it historic and really looked like the sort of fort I expected. The information guides were amazing. And very knowledgeable and it was an amazing experience. I never tire of history, historic locations or battlefields.
  • This monument to an old US Army fort has no walls, but is a poignant reminder of our pioneer history, and why the "Bloody Bozeman" was such a contested trail. Fine place to learn Western history, enjoy dark skies, or enjoy some fine scenery.
  • Found this visitor center very interesting and informative. Must see - rivals Custers...
  • Beautiful landscape, uncrowded, friendly staff. Opens your imagination to the past.
