  • We followed the Overall Run/Heiskell route described by Hikingupward.com. It’s a 12.7 mile route, starting outside of SNP and hiking through backcountry. We wanted to get some miles in before heading....  more »

  • Very good hike, with and amazing views. We even came across a black bear along the way.
  • Very fun moderate trail to hike to get into the falls. The trails are very well marked and maintained. It took us roughly 1.5 hours to hike into the falls. There are actually 2 different waterfalls 1 is around 34 feet. The main is about 98 feet. Very pretty view from a cliff overlooking the main falls. The smaller falls is a great place to cool off in the water and re-fill your water bottles. I really enjoy this hiking trail and the beautiful views you get along the way and especially the view of the large waterfall and the entire valley down below. Well worth the hike in. We always enter through Mathews Arm campground. Love being at one with nature. But keep aware as many times we have encountered black bears along the way. But they seem to be not to interested in us. As long as we keep our distance.
  • The tallest fall in Shenandoah, but is often dry or a trickle during summer (except post a storm). A good hike, but the lower third leaving the park is often somewhat overgrown, so be aware the poison ivy growth everywhere.
  • It was sort of a small waterfall and we thought we missed it, but the views were amazing!!
  • Overall Run Falls is the highest waterfall in Shenandoah at 93 feet. It's on a low flow creek so it can dry up in low water conditions. We visited a few years ago and it was barely a trickle. Since the water level was way up on our most recent visit and we were camping at Mathews Arm, we made a return trip. The hike is about 4 miles round trip and moderate from the campground and it looked a lot better in high water. There's also an upper falls about 0.2 miles before the big one. The overlook for Overall Run Falls is really beautiful and worth the hike even if the water is low.
