Chapel of the Holy Cross, Sedona
(4.6/5 based on 6,000+ reviews on the web)
Built into the red sandstone cliffs of the Sonoran Desert, Chapel of the Holy Cross offers panoramic views of the region's rugged landscape. Commissioned by a local rancher and sculptor Marguerite Brunswig Staude, the chapel took nearly two years to complete, with the final touches added in 1956. Considered a wonder of modern architecture, the structure sits on a twin-pinnacled ridge, towering over the landscape from a height of about 75 m (250 ft). Sparsely adorned inside, the building contains a few benches hugging the angular walls, two rows of pews in the center, and floor-to-ceiling windows behind the altar. Be sure to wear comfortable shoes for the steep climb from the parking lot. Add Chapel of the Holy Cross and other attractions to your Sedona trip itinerary using our Sedona itinerary maker.

  • Although this chapel is primarily Catholic, it was a moving experience. Thank goodness that there are golf carts going up and down the hill, however. Parking is at premium and the climb is quite steep...  more »

  • Just one of many awesome things to see in Sedona! The Chapel itself is rather small but the inside and the grounds are beautiful.
  • Gorgeous church with a stunning view! I have been to the Chapel of the Holy Cross on multiple occasions and every time has been a fun and peaceful experience. There is a gift shop in the church downstairs that is fun to go to for religious gifts. I am Catholic, but I still think people of other faiths could appreciate and enjoy the beauty of this church. I would say it is a place you must go if you are visiting Sedona!
  • This was an incredible place to visit. The church was so peaceful and all the tourists made sure to keep it that way. Also the view to be seen in all directions was astounding. This is a must see if in Sedona.
  • You have to walk up a hill to get inside the church. It smells like candles & matches. Looks pretty. Catholic style Gift shop inside down the steps. Books, postcards etc. Easy to find from 89A
  • Very unique location and architecture for this church. The setting provides stunning views of Sedona.
