4.6/5 based on 5,500+ reviews on the web
Built into the red sandstone cliffs of the Sonoran Desert, Chapel of the Holy Cross offers panoramic views of the region's rugged landscape. Commissioned by a local rancher and sculptor Marguerite Brunswig Staude, the chapel took nearly two years to complete, with the final touches added in 1956. Considered a wonder of modern architecture, the structure sits on a twin-pinnacled ridge, towering over the landscape from a height of about 75 m (250 ft). Sparsely adorned inside, the building contains a few benches hugging the angular walls, two rows of pews in the center, and floor-to-ceiling windows behind the altar. Be sure to wear comfortable shoes for the steep climb from the parking lot. Add Chapel of the Holy Cross and other attractions to your Sedona trip itinerary using our Sedona itinerary maker.

  • Gorgeous church with a stunning view! I have been to the Chapel of the Holy Cross on multiple occasions and every time has been a fun and peaceful experience. There is a gift shop in the church downstairs that is fun to go to for religious gifts. I am Catholic, but I still think people of other faiths could appreciate and enjoy the beauty of this church. I would say it is a place you must go if you are visiting Sedona!
  • You have to walk up a hill to get inside the church. It smells like candles & matches. Looks pretty. Catholic style Gift shop inside down the steps. Books, postcards etc. Easy to find from 89A
  • Gorgeous view! The church and surrounding red rock are just unbelievable. Great photo opportunities. Nice mansion can be seen by the church as well--lucky owner! Can even see carvings if you look closely in rocks facing the backside of the church. Definitely worth a quick stop in Sedona. For the religious and non-religious.
  • Amazing place with stunning views. This place makes you appreciate all that he has created.
  • Pretty crowded and small, nothing to interesting. it closes pretty early. its very clean around with pretty flowers and the views are really pretty.
