Chapel of the Holy Cross, Sedona

4.7
Built into the red sandstone cliffs of the Sonoran Desert, Chapel of the Holy Cross offers panoramic views of the region's rugged landscape. Commissioned by a local rancher and sculptor Marguerite Brunswig Staude, the chapel took nearly two years to complete, with the final touches added in 1956. Considered a wonder of modern architecture, the structure sits on a twin-pinnacled ridge, towering over the landscape from a height of about 75 m (250 ft). Sparsely adorned inside, the building contains a few benches hugging the angular walls, two rows of pews in the center, and floor-to-ceiling windows behind the altar. Be sure to wear comfortable shoes for the steep climb from the parking lot. • What a beautiful chapel in such a blessed location!!! Glad we stopped by this amazing chapel on our way through Sedona, it was definitely worth the stop and took the time to say some prayers while visiting. There’s a small gift shop below. No restrooms, but there are outhouses near the bottom. Handicapped parking at the top closest to the chapel.
  • Beautiful views inside and outside of the church. Little gift shop in the basement. The first parking lot once you get through the gate is great for photos of the outside of the church. Drive all the way up if you want to go inside.
  • I absolutely love this place. Every time I visit I stop by. They have a beautiful gift shop. Everything about this place is beautiful. It’s a must see
  • Beautiful surroundings and very easy to get to. This is listed on a hiking/trails app, but it is hardly a hike. You will park at the base and have about a 3 minute walk up a fairly steep, paved road. The church and surrounding terrain make this absolutely worth the visit!
  • Absolutely gorgeous! The artwork inside is breathtaking. The surrounding mountains make everything even more amazing. If you come here please still remember to be respectful to the chapel and area itself and others there. This is the most beautiful chapel I have ever been in.
