Built into the red sandstone cliffs of the Sonoran Desert, Chapel of the Holy Cross offers panoramic views of the region's rugged landscape. Commissioned by a local rancher and sculptor Marguerite Brunswig Staude, the chapel took nearly two years to complete, with the final touches added in 1956. Considered a wonder of modern architecture, the structure sits on a twin-pinnacled ridge, towering over the landscape from a height of about 75 m (250 ft). Sparsely adorned inside, the building contains a few benches hugging the angular walls, two rows of pews in the center, and floor-to-ceiling windows behind the altar. Be sure to wear comfortable shoes for the steep climb from the parking lot. So very beautiful. We parked at the bottom and walked up. It is a bit of a walk but we'll worth it. There is parking further up near the chapel as well. more »

I first visited this chapel about 30 years ago and I loved it! It had such a peaceful and welcoming atmosphere. There was an alter with flowers and tall candles at each side. It had a non... more »

Worth a quick visit if you enjoy mid century architecture. Small yet impressive chapel with a sweet little souvenir store in his basement. The view from the top is quite lovely I would recommend for..... more »

Beautiful church in such a beautiful location! Took so many great pictures here. The way the sun hits different areas outside is amazing..so many great photo opportunities if you're in to that kind of thing..I'm not religious but I still enjoyed the visit..they have a cute little gift shop but I didn't see anything too appealing..but again, I'm not religious so to somebody who is, I'm sure it all would have meant a lot more to them and a commemorative item would have been a nice thing to have..

We didn't make it up to the Chapel level. Though being in the parking lot right below allows for some magnificent views. The ramp up is quite steep, so even being wheelchair accessible for some manual chairs will be tough. Definitely a place to just stop and admire the views, in person is so much better.

Very peaceful. The Lord is present here! The staff is very nice and the church itself is beautiful on the inside and out. A good place to visit and pray. The gift in the lower levels is filled with amazing Christian gifts, souvenirs, and Bibles. A must visit for a visiting Christian

Striking setting. Small (Catholic) chapel with bold design. Very popular with tourists. Grounds are nicely kept, too. A gift shop has simple touristy trinkets, but also beautiful artwork, religious items. Very friendly staff.

Have to come here and say a prayer or two. It is a must Everytime I come here I leave here blessed. The accessories and the view is beautiful. I always buy from the shop down the stairs. The scenery is outstanding and gorgeous it leaves you breathless. The chapel is just one of many places to visit but it's more spiritual than just the views.
