Cathedral Rock, Sedona

#1 of 44 in Parks in Sedona
Must see · Geologic Formation · Nature / Park
Soak in the dramatic scenery of red desert hills and endless blue sky while hiking at Cathedral Rock. One of the state’s most iconic landmarks, the sandstone rock formation takes the shape of a cathedral perched majestically above the rest of the landscape. Wind through the rock’s three saddles, or gaps, on the short but steep 2.4 km (1.5 mi) hike. Be sure to carry extra water and wear sturdy hiking shoes with you as the trail is rigorous in certain places. • Beautiful place to watch the sunrise! A popular place for proposals, as well. Hike was not as difficult as we expected (both my husband and I are in our late 50's). This hike is very crowded. The...  more »
  • You must do the hike! Very satisfying, medium difficulty in some areas. I would avoid holiday peak periods though. We had trouble finding parking which delayed our day's schedule.  more »
  • This is a Spectacular hike with amazing views. It is certainly not for the weak hearted. Also you need to be pretty fit to climb up to reasonable locations. Some places are pretty steep. Strongly...  more »
  • Definitely one of my favorite hikes in Sedona. Relatively, easy hike.
  • More of an up and up than a walk. Definitely kicked my not in hiking shape behind. Great ledges to look over and take pictures from.
  • Great place for a hike. Very crowed. Outstanding views of sweeping Vista. Parts are more scrambling than hiking not a place for those fearful of heights or exposure. Trail well marked.
  • The hike was a little tough but well worth it! Bring plenty of water and shoes that grip well. There were people of all ages at the top!
  • Wow, what a hike! First you have a lot of fun scrambling up. Wear good hiking shoes! And I recommend bringing hiking poles, they make the later descend much easier. The final spot has great views at the valleys and mountains. We missed the sunset by just a few minutes, but the upside was that there were zero people at the top. We had it all for ourselves. It’s just awesome. Our descend was a bit sketchy, because it was getting dark. But with hiking poles and some confidence we ended up just fine. Overall, amazing and interesting hike with unbelievable views. Enjoy after the mandatory Devils Bridge.
