Specialty Museum Museum
Discover for yourself the history and tradition of Seattle and the American Northwest at Museum of History & Industry (MOHAI). Inside the museum you'll find one of the most comprehensive collections of artifacts in the whole region. See the first Boeing commercial plane, take a look through the original World War II submarine periscope, and travel through Seattle's history from the city's beginnings to the modern age. In addition to the permanent displays, which show just a fraction of its collection, the museum regularly sets up themed exhibits (look up the schedule online before you arrive). The museum is easily accessible via public transportation, and there is also designated parking for visitors who arrive by car, as well as the historical wharf for those who prefer to sail in. Make Museum of History & Industry (MOHAI) a centerpiece of your Seattle vacation itinerary, and find what else is worth visiting using our Seattle itinerary maker.

Where to stay in Seattle

Famous for its architecture, Seattle's downtown area features a range of lodging options, including high-end hotels offering expensive rooms with views over Elliott Bay. Remember that despite their prices, many hotels in this waterfront district provide rather small rooms. If you need more space but don't want to break the bank, head out of downtown to some of the city's outlying neighborhoods. Seattle's diverse suburbs offer affordable bed and breakfasts, providing you with all the comforts of home and allowing you to see what local life is really like.

  • Very well presented information about Seattle's history and economy. The lakefront location is really nice. We did not visit oon the right day to take a ride on one of the old vessels, but that would ...  more »

  • Best history museum I have ever been to. The exhibits are fun and hold your attentions--including a mini musical about the great Seattle fire. Rotating exhibits are well done also. I went to the edible Seattle exhibit about food around the northwest area. Only complaint is that the museum is freezing so bring a sweater.
  • Love It! As a volunteer at another great Seattle Museum I took advantage of National Volunteer Appreciation Week and finally went to the MOHAI. Wow! Way beyond any expectations I had. This place is outstanding! It was very motivating. I love it and it satiated my craving for the history of my hometown in the most creative and mind blowing way. Go! Do it! I will continue to recommend it to everyone who comes to my info desk at SAM only now I will do it with even greater enthusiasm.
  • This place was incredible! We were told by friends that it "takes about 45 minutes to see it" but we were there for 4 hours and still hadn't seen everything before the place closed for the day! Very interesting history of the area and the city. The building is beautiful too! And in a great location. Was within walking distance from our hotel. We hope to make it back again some day to finish experiencing the rest of it. We had a great time! Perfect for the whole family! Definitely check this place out!
  • It's ok. The museum doesn't seem to have a coherent purpose. The elements about Seattle's history are fun and somewhat engaging. If you live in Seattle its worth a visit. If you have limited time in the city I would go elsewhere.
  • this place is fun for adults and kids alike. You could spends hours here and still not take in all the information. just the structure alone is amazing. check out the boats outside(floating museum). worth going back multiple times.
