  • Seattle Museum of history at a glance you can see the gold rush. Got a lot of trips to visit, but because of the challenges.

  • When I visited, the museum was packed with a school group, which made the open space extremely loud, but as soon as they took off, it was great! The museum documents the history of Seattle at the time...  more »

  • A free experience-museum that allows you to learn all about the Gold Rush in Seattle. Very informative, and very well researched and preserved. Was a great way to learn a little bit more about Seattle, if you are into history, this place should be a quick stop! They even had a lot of authentic items you would find during the Gold Rush period, which made the experience even more cool. Would recommend to any history buffs.
  • Of all the places to get a national parks passport stamp this one is definitely in my top 3 hidden locations. It isn't really that hidden, but if you're not looking for it then you probably won't stumble across it. That being said, it is a great facility with a lot of information and a great exhibit. Lots of hands on activities for kids and good break from the hectic crowd a mile away at Pike Place Market. Don't forget to sign the visitor log when you're there!
  • Great museum: I love this tiny little downtown museum. Unlike other museums, it tells a specific story, and tells it well from start to finish. It helps you picture what it was like to be caught up in gold rush fever, how you would get supplies, and what incredible obstacles you'd be presented with. Well worth the trip.
  • The museum told a very interesting story about the history of Seattle, and presented it very well. We were hooked! You get caught up in the excitement of the news of gold, endure the harsh journey to the Klondike, and get hit with the brutal reality faced by many of the stampeders when they returned home empty-handed. Well worth the visit!
  • A charming free exhibit; walked in here and was greeted with very friendly and helpful staff. This exhibit offers a lot of valuable history lessons of Seattle and the PNW.

Where to stay in Seattle

Famous for its architecture, Seattle's downtown area features a range of lodging options, including high-end hotels offering expensive rooms with views over Elliott Bay. Remember that despite their prices, many hotels in this waterfront district provide rather small rooms. If you need more space but don't want to break the bank, head out of downtown to some of the city's outlying neighborhoods. Seattle's diverse suburbs offer affordable bed and breakfasts, providing you with all the comforts of home and allowing you to see what local life is really like.
