Fremont Troll, Seattle

4.0
One of Seattle's more unusual tourist attractions, Fremont Troll hides out under the Aurora Bridge. The giant stone sculpture of a troll eating a full-size Volkswagen Beetle was created by a team of local artists led by sculptor Steve Badanes. The mixed-media artwork is made of rebar steel, wire, and reinforced concrete. Though you can have your picture taken standing next to the sculpture, you can also climb on top of it and take a look at its one good eye, made from an ordinary hubcap. • I first learned about this troll a few years ago when visiting family. It's amazing to see as you drive up the hill to see the troll rising from the ground as you approach. We were there a couple of.....  more »
  • We like seeing different things on our trips, so we made a stop at the Fremont troll. The teen kids climbed around & we took some fun photos. The area had an overall stench to it. It smelled heavily.....  more »
  • We almost skipped this due to time, but we were so glad we didn't! This was a great, free stop, and such a unique sculpture! It's massive! One of the pics has a lady standing on his hand in it to....  more »

  • I mean really - where else are going to see a huge troll under a bridge? I was surprised at just how large it really is. I'm 6'4" and stood on its shoulders and was about the height of the head. Truly interesting and not something you will see elsewhere. I love the uniqueness of this local treat. And we got to see him (it?) with freshly painted nails from a couple days earlier
  • Public art at it's most-whimsical, fun, and quirky. A great piece of sculpture that begs for a visit, especially if you have children, while in Seattle. There is not a great deal of parking, except on the street, so you may have to walk a block. But, it is worth the effort.
  • Very interesting landmark and an iconic tourist destination. It's cool to look at and take pictures, but it us under a bridge and the parking is rare. It would be better if there were more attractions or businesses around to merit more than a drive by, but it is unique to Seattle and at least worth circling the block.
  • Seen better. Slabbed a good beef for he show up. Rolled my paddle boat through about 3 gardens? Tom's two poodles didn't see it, but I had a grande burrito. As its layers folded in my hand, the warm cheese gave me a smile. TWO stars.
  • Parking can be a challenge and all maps have a hard time finding it but it is a fun addition for a quick stop. All the people we met was willing to help take photos and you could tell this is a arts attraction with people taking artistic photos and showing off their style. It is a great use of under bridge area though it does make it hard for those living near the troll. Do not pay for parking if you circle enough there will be a free 2hr open up!
