Fremont Troll, Seattle

(4/5 based on 950+ reviews on the web)
One of Seattle's more unusual tourist attractions, Fremont Troll hides out under the Aurora Bridge. The giant stone sculpture of a troll eating a full-size Volkswagen Beetle was created by a team of local artists led by sculptor Steve Badanes. The mixed-media artwork is made of rebar steel, wire, and reinforced concrete. Though you can have your picture taken standing next to the sculpture, you can also climb on top of it and take a look at its one good eye, made from an ordinary hubcap. Fremont Troll is just one of the many highlights you can arrange to see using our world travel planner, Seattle Edition.

  • Nice walk over the bridge to see the troll. Its actually very big and thats a real car. Great to see because of the nice walk.
  • An excellent piece of local culture ? and definitely art ! What a unique display and very popular with locals and tourists alike ! Locals love showing it off ...and tourists fall in love !
  • I just turned up a street in Fremont and there it was. Freaking hell, I am glad was daylight. I do not know the history of this, but it is nevertheless an interesting visit if you happen to be in Frem...  more »

  • This is a fun enough tourist attraction. It is a bit away from other tourist things. It takes a min to find parking. You pretty much walk up look at it and take a pic. I would recommend visiting if you are already in the area or going to the area. On the plus side it shows the cool history of this part of the city and there are some killer places to eat and drink near by!
  • I don't really know what to say about this. It's a giant troll under a freeway bridge. There's honestly not much to do here except check it out and take pictures. There's not a lot around either so you literally just go there, take your pics and leave. Unless you can think of something else to do... have a picnic...? Haha. There was also a lot of people around when I went. Lots of kids climbing and stuff. Overall, not much to do, but cool pic opt.
  • When showing friends or family around no trip is complete without a visit to the troll. Fun statue that is always a highlight. Check out Schillings Cider house down the hill for another Seattle Highlight
  • it's actually really cool. you can climb the troll too and take fun pictures. i'd recommend going before 10 am if you want solo shots. otherwise other people show up so it's harder to take a decent photo
  • A unique piece of art that definitely stands out in a league of its own. Parking is scarce and there's not much to do other than see it and take pictures, but it's worth swinging by to look at for sure.
