Fremont Troll, Seattle

One of Seattle's more unusual tourist attractions, Fremont Troll hides out under the Aurora Bridge. The giant stone sculpture of a troll eating a full-size Volkswagen Beetle was created by a team of local artists led by sculptor Steve Badanes. The mixed-media artwork is made of rebar steel, wire, and reinforced concrete. Though you can have your picture taken standing next to the sculpture, you can also climb on top of it and take a look at its one good eye, made from an ordinary hubcap. Fremont Troll is just one of the many highlights you can arrange to see using our world travel planner, Seattle Edition.

  • I don't know if it's worth making a special trip but if you're in the Fremont area, do stop by. It's quite big and you can climb on it for pictures too. But at the end of the day, it is just a giant c...  read more »
  • I saw this listed on RoadsideAmerica and as a fan of the strange, I simply had to go check it out. The troll is much larger than I expected him to be! The area around it embraces the theme, with an ap...  read more »
  • You can either drive by or stop for a photo moment. Either way it is a must. The history behind this troll is interesting as well. It's off the beaten path by worth going to. Parking is very limited, ...  read more »
  • It's a Landmark all Seattleite's should visit sooner or later. The troll living under the Fremont bridge! It is real sandy there, didn't bother me at all...My boy loved the Troll. Remember when you visit there is a VW Beetle so call out your "slug bug" and get your punches in! HA!
  • A great sight to see! If your in the area, don't miss it, you'll regret it! Doesn't matter if your 2 or 80 it's just plan fun to see
  • If you come to Seattle you have to see the troll , get a picture by it. The troll is an iconic part of Seattle's history, it's also funny if you are a troll to get a pic by the troll! I was born and raised in Washington, I remember seeing the troll as a kid. I guess what makes it so cool, is the fact that it is a unique piece of art, which someone, obviously put, lots of effort into, making a pretty realistic--if I may add-- troll. Actually kinda of resembles that out of Lord of the Rings. Go Check it out, but don't expect something amazing....(Yes, I am trolling you)
  • Very Impressive! Troll Under Fremont Bridge is a must visit. Almost couldn't find it with GPS, so parking was easy you just have to follow the street that runs under the bridge & it's at the end. Very Sandy that wasn't a problem.
  • The Freemont Troll is ine of those things you have to see in person, if you're in the Seattle area I definetly recommend making the trip.
