Fran's Chocolates - Downtown, Seattle
(4.6/5 based on 55+ reviews on the web)
Dedicated to preserving the pure, clean flavor of chocolate, Fran Bigelow is renowned for creating intense chocolate notes with a seductive texture. Her mastery of chocolate allows her to bring out its depth and complexity by building layers of flavor that heighten the experience.

In 1982, Fran introduced the artisan chocolate experience to consumers when she opened her European-style chocolate shop in Seattle, Washington. Created as a place to showcase her sublimely rich desserts, Fran also offered caramels and truffles, which quickly captured the favor of her customers and became her signature confections.

Fran maintains the flavor and quality of her chocolates through small batch production and by selecting the finest, and when possible, local and organic ingredients. For her couverture she selects the highest quality cacao available from regions such as Venezuela, Madagascar, and Ecuador.

  • Great chocolate, especially the darkest, which is fruity with with an incredible mouth feel.. Nice people behind the counter, and the sample was a wonderful bonus.
  • I was in a hurry to catch the ferry, but wanted to get some chocolate for my wife. I rush into the store and talk to the gentleman behind the counter. I say, "I have a budget of $20.00 and am in a hur...  more »
  • They have delicious chocolate! Definitely try the single malt whiskey. A 5-piece box only runs around $12 so it's totally worth it!

  • The chocolate here is definitely worth the visit. Sure it may seem a little pricey, but ask any employee where the ingredients are sourced and you'll find that Fran's only uses the best ingredients in their chocolate. I love grabbing a latte and a few pieces to sit down with and enjoy, or getting a small box to take into a late night show downtown. They also sell a great selection of port if you're trying to make a good impression at a social gathering or date night. P.S. If you have 10 minutes to spare ask an employee to share the Fran's Story with you.
  • Yummy Selections for Chocolate Therapy! Decadent chocolates are to be found here. My recommendation is the $40 assorted chocolate box. Best part: You get the choose the pieces!
  • This is a chocolate livers paradise. High end chocolate selection with a display that lights up the downtown Seattle street. Dark chocolate covered ginger was delectable! This is the perfect after dinner stop to grab a little dessert.
  • Delicious local chocolatier. Whenever I'm going to visit friends or family out of town, I like to stop in to get them a box of Fran's caramels. While I'm at it, I treat myself to a Double Chocolate Fig. Mostly I'm treating myself to the Double Chocolate Fig, and the gift is an afterthought. I'm a horrible human being.
  • Definitely worth it. The Macchiato espresso drink I got was tremendously good. A real Macchiato and not the BS type you get at Starbucks. It is an espresso shot with a little bit of foam. It also comes with a 60% or so dark chocolate to enjoy with your drink. As for the chocolates, we were greeted with a free sample and it was amazing. We bought a fee other pieces at $2 a piece and they were tremendous. We also bought bought a pack of the mint chocolate for our friend who we were staying with as a gift and she confirmed it was really good since that is her favorite type of chocolate. My wife is the chocolate connoisseur in the household and I the coffee connoisseur, and I would recommend this store to all. Make sure you take a picture of the portrait made out of chocolates.
