Alki Beach, Seattle

4.5
View the city skyline, glimpse orcas and sea lions offshore, and play beach volleyball at Alki Beach. Rent kayaks and paddleboards, ride a bike down the paved path, and roller-skate while you take in the views of the nearby mountain ranges. Eat and drink at one of the many nearby restaurants, or pack food to eat at the picnic tables. Street parking is available nearby, but it fills quickly--consider taking the ferry from the city and then the free shuttle bus to the beach instead. • We drove to Alki because it was raining. We loved the atmosphere. Great places to walk along the water and see the Seattle sky-line. Nice restaurants along the water. We took pix at the mini Statue of...  more »
  • Love visiting Alki Beach each Seattle trip. It's a great spot we've seen sunsets from and travelled to and from downtown Seattle on the water taxi.  more »

  • Nice in summer. Good location to bike to and from. Lots of easy and hard biking in the area. Nice starbucks.
  • Beautiful view! Great place to hang out near Seattle if you want sandy beaches and great restaurants
  • Nice but crowded beach with quite a few restaurants and cafes. Good place to spend a full or half day. Do a lighthouse tour on weekends and make sure to stroll to Rocky Beach too.
  • Loved the North side of Alki beach, where you can see the Seattle skyline to the East, and we also enjoyed looking at the really nice apartments and condos along the beach. However, we thought our kids could enjoy the beach and swim, but we were disappointed: the beach is sandy, but the water was so dirty! Not just a ton of algae, but also pieces of floating wood, plastic pieces, unidentified bubbles and much more. How disappointing! The water was much cleaner at Lincoln Park, but so cold we couldn't swim anyway. And the pool over there didn't have much warmer water. Nice place to visit, but not for swimming.
  • One of the best places to go for a wonderful Seattle city view!

Where to stay in Seattle

Famous for its architecture, Seattle's downtown area features a range of lodging options, including high-end hotels offering expensive rooms with views over Elliott Bay. Remember that despite their prices, many hotels in this waterfront district provide rather small rooms. If you need more space but don't want to break the bank, head out of downtown to some of the city's outlying neighborhoods. Seattle's diverse suburbs offer affordable bed and breakfasts, providing you with all the comforts of home and allowing you to see what local life is really like.
