Shawnee State Park is a 3983acre Pennsylvania state park in Juniata and Napier Townships, Bedford County, Pennsylvania in the United States. Shawnee Lake, a 451acre warm water reservoir, is at the center of the park as its main attraction. The park's main entrance is just east of Schellsburg, along U.S. Route 30 and about west of the county seat of Bedford. The park is also easily accessed via State Route 31, by State Route 96 (Shawnee Road).HistoryShawnee State Park is named for Shawnee Creek, a stream which flowed through the area and was dammed to create the recreational lake at the park. The creek was named for the Shawnee, a Native American tribe that once lived in many parts of Pennsylvania, Ohio, and Kentucky. They were forced from their lands in Ohio and Kentucky by invading Iroquois, the powerful five-nation confederacy based in western New York. Later the Shawnee were forced west out of Ohio by encroachment by settlers of the Thirteen Colonies. The area surrounding the park was used as a trade route and military road during the French and Indian War (also known as the Seven Years' War). General John Forbes built the Forbes Road (which the modern-day U.S. Highway 30 parallels) to send supplies from the ports in Philadelphia and Baltimore to a force of British soldiers under his command as he tried to capture Fort Duquesne from the French in 1758.

  • I used to come to this lake as a kid and go swimming. We would picnic and fish. Great to come back many years later and see its still a great lake and really nice clean well maintained park.  more »
  • They have a trail that goes around the lake. We usually ride our bicycles. Pretty scenery. Fishing. Swimming in the summer months. Campground too. Not too crowded.  more »

  • Shawnee State Park is absolutely beautiful. It is very clean. They have picnic areas as well as kayak rentals and lodges. I visited the park to get some walking in, and I'm glad I did. If you want to get away for a day, visit Shawnee State Park. If you want a quick bite or some ice cream, visit Sundaes down the road from there. I will most definitely visit Shawnee State Park again in the near future. 😃❤
  • Went on the 4th of July - not too busy. Nice swim area and separate boat launch area. Restrooms were very clean especially considering the holiday.
  • Great park. Clean bath houses great camping. Tents or campers. Animals allowed
  • Beautiful park. Had a very relaxing time by the water. Kids loved it.
  • Love to come here with kids to swim, walk trails, fish, picnic or just by myself to relax and unwind. Gorgeous!
