3.9/5 based on 1,300+ reviews on the web
For entertainment, shopping, and dining out in Savannah, the open-air City Market offers a variety of options. The four-block area of restored warehouses was redesigned as a mixed-use space in 1985. At its center, the market features the Art Center, a collection of working studios for artists. Three apartments and offices also occupy the space. Stroll the pedestrian street to explore the art on display, or grab dinner at one of the restaurants. • Shopping, restaurants and live music.... perfect fall day. Thought that the candy kitchen was a bit of a tourist trap, $20 lb. for fudge was a bit much.
  • very good local artist, great prices. I was searching for a gift, and found a very nice print from the original artist. There are so many little shops its hard to really enjoy them all in one day.
  • Great place to sit and enjoy a drink or snack. A variety of shops and food choices are offered. Both times we walked through the area, there was live music.
  • As a local, I don't frequent city market very often anymore. I will occasionally grab dinner at Vinnie's, Belford's, B&D's, or Wild Wings (which are all worth it), but outside of that I make it a habit to avoid city market. If you enjoy local art, there are some good galleries, but visit before sundown. After sundown, the crowd can get a bit rough. Definitely not appropriate for children! Ellis Square can be fun for the kids, since they can play in the fountains, but you may come across some unpleasant people - even during the day. The Tervis store is just off the square, if you enjoy the cups. As far as the bars in the area, they're not great. Just off City Market however, both Ampersand and Social Club are great for younger crowds! I don't want to tell visitors to stay away from City Market, but there are many other great areas of town to visit - most tourists tend to get sucked into staying around this area without venturing out, and you will definitely miss so much of what Savannah has to offer, if you do that!
  • Wonderful area of downtown Savannah. Great galleries and restaurants, a few tacky shops but kept to a minimum. This hasn't been scrubbed clean to have nothing but faceless chains, still lots of local color. Well worth the visit
  • We loved city market. Having so many stores, restaurants, and bars in one location is a great idea. We were a large group and city market allowed us to separate but not get too lost. Everyone was able to find somewhere the wanted to go.
  • This is a great stop if you are in the Savannnah area. We had an enjoyable time roaming around the market - lots of great little shop to see. Worth the time to visit.
  • Yeah, tourists... It's a place for you to go... Be here, eat your fatty foods, go home, be happy. Spend money.
