Inspirock Rating:
4.6/5 based on 1,700+ reviews on the web
Marie Selby Botanical Gardens specialize in epiphytes, especially orchids and bromeliads, and boast one of the largest and most diverse collections in the world. (Epiphystes grow on other plants but are not parasitic; they derive moisture and nutrients from the air and rain.) The staff at this lush tropical oasis is devoted to growing, preserving, and studying these plants. Rest on a bench or have a snack at the cafe. Artists are encouraged to bring their sketchbooks. Consider bringing insect repellant. Use our Sarasota vacation route planner to arrange your visit to Marie Selby Botanical Gardens and other attractions in Sarasota.

  • Marie Shelby Gardens is beautifully maintained. It us not very large but a nice place to visit for a couple of hours.
  • One-of-a-kind botanical garden with beautiful grounds and an orchid collection like none other. I recommend going in spring or fall when it's cooler outside. The (relatively) recent addition of a musical jungle garden is whimsical and fun for the kids and playful grownups.
  • Amazing botanical garden. Thus far, we've visited gardens in Fort Myers, Naples, and Largo, FL, and Marie Selby Botanical Gardens is in a class by itself. I do not know why the ratings of the others are as high or higher, since they don't compete. Beautiful, and highly recommended. Gorgeous bayfront views, in addition to the garden. Bring your camera.
  • A bit overpriced. But worth it once you see all the beautiful plants! Older woman work there. They are very sweet.
  • Even though we live out of town, we maintain our membership so that we feel free to visit anytime while we are on Anna Maria. Our guests ask for a day off the island to visit Selby. That's how beautiful it is! We love it!
  • Very disappointed, drove all the way from St. Pete on a beautiful spring day (two hours round trip) just to be turned away because they no longer reciprocate with Sunken Gardens members. Marie Selby Botanical Gardens did their best to ruin a beautiful day. We didn’t let them, after returning to the St. Pete area we enjoyed the Florida Botanical Gardens in Largo. Just wish we had never bothered with Marie Selby Botanical Gardens.
