Enjoy an African adventure in wine country at Safari West. On the three-hour riding and walking tour, you'll see a variety of exotic wildlife, including gazelles, zebras, antelopes, Cape buffalo, and wildebeests. During the walking portion, admire colorful birds in the open-air aviary, and watch primates play in the branches on Lemur Island. After the safari, try some barbecue and local wine on the cafe's veranda. On-site lodging is available. For guided tours on an all-terrain vehicle, reserve in advance; space is limited. • I was wondering if this place will even be open considering the devastating fire that engulfed the area in October 2017. Luckily, they survived (thanks to the owner staying back and using garden hoses...  more »

  • Had a wonderful adventure in the rain today. Our tour guide Nate was funny and informative. Thanks for a wonderful trip, better than the zoo any day. Saw giraffes, cheetahs, flamingos, foxes, pigs, antelopes, buffalo, and more so close and personal. Lunch was also a great addition. All you can eat smoked chicken, pulled pork, potato salad, Caesar salad, fruit, macaroni and cheese, baked beans, grilled zucchini, rolls, and chocolate pudding for dessert. Includes coffee, tea, and hot chocolate too! Go on this adventure and enjoy!
  • This is one of the only places I know of where you can pet a Sevrile, a Bush baby, and get licked by a giraffe. You don't have to but you can get that close to some amazing animals if you want and that's really cool! Staff and volunteers here are very helpful and knowledgeable. We were just up there for a benefit afternoon after the wildfires had been raging through the area and it really looked like Safari West had survived very well. Actually we didn't see anything that was damaged from the fire though I know that some of the grounds were and that the caretaker had heroically run around in his Jeep saving the animals even though the fire department ordered him to leave. You can stay here overnight in one of their Yurts which is like a very fancy canvas tent topped room and you can eat dinner and breakfast and lunch and dinner dining area which has some excellent food. Overall The Experience here is just incredible it's much different than a zoo. Definitely worth a visit.
  • The most amazing experience. The Safari trips are truely great. Our leader Jeff was a really well-informed and safety strict guide. He explained everything in detail and gave great safety instruction to have a very safe and joyful Safari ride. It is much better than a zoo. Great for children and families.
  • Informed and friendly guides. The animals are incredible and look healthy and happy. Lunch was delicious. This place is important to conservation and a great place to visit.
  • The tour was amazing. The guide took her time, answered all of our questions and was cognizant of one of our parties fear of birds. The information shared was amazing.

The old claim that Santa Rosa is "Where Everything Comes Together" remains undeniably true, at least when it comes to its accommodations. Although you can always stay in San Francisco, just an hour to the south, Santa Rosa offers plenty of lodging options to suit every traveler's budget. You can choose from among luxury hotels, vacation rental homes, and inns, all within minutes of downtown. If you prefer to rough it in wine country, choose one of the area's rustic campgrounds.
