3.3/5 based on 1,000+ reviews on the web
Admire gymnasts and acrobats showing off their tricks at Original Muscle Beach. Established in the 1930s, the beach first got attention when legendary bodybuilders Joe Gold and Vic Tanny started lifting the weight equipment. Today, the weight equipment is at Venice Beach, but gymnasts and acrobats still come here to train. Bring your camera, but be sure to ask before snapping shots of the athletes in action. • Also don't miss Muscle Beach if you want to people watch. Wow! Our hotel was directly behind Muscle Beach so we could watch them all day and evening, but never tired of it.
  • Always a workout in progress. It's a great viewing spot. There are slack lines people working out and a show. Lots of spectators it's an endless party!!!
  • Definitely some different people in this area, but it was fun to see. We felt that quite a few of the guys working out were just there to perform and try to get money for doing stuff.
  • Cool place for some rings and other gymnast setups as well as tightrope walking. People seem friendly and wait their turn. Be dazzled by the Masters and learn from them as you watch them do some crazy feats of physical strength and endurance.
  • It's fun over here, get in a good upper body workout with these ropes and bars. Don't forget to check out the swings!
  • Magical place to visit! Acrobats have been coming here since the 1930's to practice right on the beach. So much to see and do!
  • Best outdoor gym in the world. The rings look easy, but are a fun challenges. Can't beat the views of the beach and pier.
  • Cool to see a little piece of history. Be sure to check it out on your way to the pier!
