New Mexico Legislature, Santa Fe

Categories: Government Buildings, Tourist Spots
Inspirock Rating:
4.6/5 based on 650+ reviews on the web
It's not a railroad legacy that gives New Mexico Legislature the nickname "the Roundhouse." The moniker works because building is the only round state capitol building in the United States. Dedicated in 1966, the building's design resembles the Zia Sun Symbol, which also appears on the flag of New Mexico. This symbol is central to the beliefs of the Zia indigenous group and features a circle with four sets of lines extending out from it, forming a T-shape. Most of the capitol building is open to the public for self-guided tours on weekdays. From galleries above the House and Senate chambers, you can catch state government in action. Visit the fourth floor for special art exhibits in the Governor's Gallery. Make New Mexico Legislature part of your personalized Santa Fe itinerary using our Santa Fe trip builder.

  • I just got to say we had a surprising time wondering the halls of the Round House. Art is usually not a pastime adventure. But around (no pun intended) every corner something to feast the eyes on. No security hurdles to endure & I found the different furniture quite amazing. Curb appeal is 2 stars, but inside 5 stars plus. It's just plane GORGEOUS. Go see for yourself
  • Unique architecture and beautiful surroundings. This is where everything goes down. Check it out, then walk up the street to Upper Crust Pizza.
