New Mexico Legislature, Santa Fe

4.4
It's not a railroad legacy that gives New Mexico Legislature the nickname "the Roundhouse." The moniker works because building is the only round state capitol building in the United States. Dedicated in 1966, the building's design resembles the Zia Sun Symbol, which also appears on the flag of New Mexico. This symbol is central to the beliefs of the Zia indigenous group and features a circle with four sets of lines extending out from it, forming a T-shape. Most of the capitol building is open to the public for self-guided tours on weekdays. From galleries above the House and Senate chambers, you can catch state government in action. Visit the fourth floor for special art exhibits in the Governor's Gallery. • I just got to say we had a surprising time wondering the halls of the Round House. Art is usually not a pastime adventure. But around (no pun intended) every corner something to feast the eyes on. No security hurdles to endure & I found the different furniture quite amazing. Curb appeal is 2 stars, but inside 5 stars plus. It's just plane GORGEOUS. Go see for yourself
  • it was boring, we need a proper way of reviewing laws, like socialism!
  • Unique architecture and beautiful surroundings. This is where everything goes down. Check it out, then walk up the street to Upper Crust Pizza.

Where to stay in Santa Fe

Though the downtown area contains most of Santa Fe's finest hotels, you can find plenty of equally comfortable inns and motels just outside this busy central district. Remember also that most of the city's centrally located hotels raise their prices during the height of the tourist season, so it is essential to look for deals and make reservations well in advance. To experience the true spirit of outdoor New Mexico while on holiday, consider sleeping under the stars at a campground just a short drive from Santa Fe's major urban attractions.
